Monae was always good at hiding her emotions; From everyone but Andres. They were about 16 when she gave up trying and decided to make him her "diary." Since that day, he knew everything she thought or felt, and always knew what to say or do to make her feel better.

But not this time... This time Andres was completely in the dark. He and Monae had been upset with each other before. But never anything like this. How do you fix a situation like this? How do you stop each other from drifting away? He didn't have the answers. And she wasn't trying to help him find them. She made it clear she had no intention of sitting with him to discuss things. And he understood. But it wasn't helpful.

This would lead to one of the rare occasions where she saw his frustration flare up at her.  "So you'd rather do nothing?" His voice wasn't raised, despite the bar being practically empty. "I don't know what you're talking about because this is already torture. I thought you would want to do something about it. Guess it was just me..." It was the wrong answer and he knew it. But the words flew before he could stop them, and before he knew it, she was already storming to the back.

He sighed and pulled out a pen, leaving a note on a napkin where he stood.

-I'll be outside if you change your mind. We don't have to sit in the car. We can walk if you want.-

Whenever they didn't have words, the two could always just walk together to release pent up feelings. Andres didn't understand how it worked, but it had always been helpful in the past. Of course, she would probably just slap him in the face if she -did- decide to come out. Andres could only hope he hadn't made things worse. But even if he had, he was going to face it head on. He would wait outside the bar as long as it took, even if it meant waiting until the end of Monae's shift. She was the only person he had. He couldn't give up on her.

Her eyes did not leave him as he walked to the bar. 'My goodness, this man is beautiful. I still do not know what to say to him about last weekend.....' She could not break her composure. She wouldn't allow herself to break down, not here.

'Let me buy you a drink.' Andro rolled her eyes as she turned away from Andres. She was so sick of that line. It lost any cute or amusing charm during her first week bartending and he knew it. She could tell that he came down on an impulse and he hadn't figured out what he wanted to say to her either. There wasn't much that the two could say. A drunken night lead to a decision that did something that neither of them expected, even through all of the jealous/crazy ex's, nothing stopped them from talking to each other until this.

She turned around after she heard his question and answered with a shake of her head. "Dre, do you really think that the two of us being alone in your car to try and talk about whatever this," her hands waved over dramatically in front of her, "is a good idea? Not because I think that anything will happen, I know that we are going to stare ahead, not saying anything until my break is over, then you are going to leave with a promise that you will call me tomorrow or for me to call you when I get off work. That will only lead to another undetermined amount of time without talking to the only man who understood me, or so I thought. I'm not going to torture myself Dre, I can't." Tears welled at her lash line before making their way down her cheeks in warm streams. "I know it was an accident and I should not have initiated something that we were not ready for."

She turned away from him, grabbing a cocktail napkin before heading in the back. She didn't want him to see her crying, not again. She understood that she couldn't be upset with Andres but, she can't help but direct the anger that she felt at herself for ruining her friendship at him. 'He should have told me it wasn't a good idea. I should have told myself that it wasn't a good idea. It should have never happened. We should have just had a normal sleep over, like always. But no, I had to go and change things and I screwed everything up, like always!' Her tears began streaming faster as her breathing became more shallow. She didn't understand how to internalize this pain, it was worse than the feeling of losing her first love....or was this truly losing her first love.....?

They were the toughest twelve steps that Andres had ever taken. They gave him an eternity to overevaluate Monae's words, her poture, her tone... None of it was good She treated him like any other customer, not like a friend she had known her whole life! It was a far cry from when he had come to see her only a few days prior.

Even so, he made his way to the bar and had a seat. She held his gaze, as if she were waiting for something, but he still wasn't sure what to say. So when she asked if she could get him anything, he shook his head. "Let me buy you a drink." He said. The life behind his eyes wasn't there like it normally was, but there was still a hint of his usual charm in his voice. He was trying...

He knew that she could have drinks, within reason. But paying for it gave her the freedom to go wild with her drink of choice. But a drink wasn't going to fix this. Hell, a drink was the cause of it all! But he needed something to break the ice. But what was to come after that? For a few minutes, he sat, silently, unable to form a word, let alone a coherent sentence. This setting simply wouldn't do... "When do you get a break?" He asked. His only hope was to get her to a more comfortable place. They had spent countless nights up talking in his car. Maybe that would work. That was, if she would even agree to come with him...

‘I should just talk to him. What’s the worst that could happen? ……..actually I take that back. It could be a lot worse. I think I may have lost my best friend. Why did I have to do that? Why can’t it be like before? I just want my best friend back.’ Andro leaned against the back of the bar, her chest heaved from a deep sigh.

She couldn’t bring herself to speak to him first. It was her fault in the first place. An apology would make things even more awkward but trying to talk about it hasn’t worked. How can they talk if she couldn’t pick up the phone? ‘I think I am going to call him tomorrow. Hopefully I can think of something to say by then…..but that’s easier thought than done….’

Andro turned to check the bar, hoping that someone would enter to help her take her mind off of what happened but lady luck was not on her side tonight. ‘What is he doing here?! When did he get here?! What am I supposed to say to him? What is he going to say to me?!’ Her lower body shook behind the bar but her face held it’s composure. Her eyes lingered on his, as fearful wonder flowed behind as she tried to calm her racing mind.

“Welcome. Sit wherever you’d like. Is there anything that I can get you?” Her voice was not the one that he was accustomed to, it was the one used for her customers. She couldn’t bring herself to allow her natural emotions for him to flow free. Too many tears had spilled already, she didn’t want anymore.

Andres sat in the car outside the bar where Andro worked, trying to figure out what to say to her. The silence between them was torturous! For them to go a whole day without exchanging words was unheard of, let alone a whole weekend! But no matter what, he couldn't come up with anything to portray the way he felt.

An hour later, he was still sitting in his car. He contemplated turning and going back home. She would be off for the next two days. Maybe that would be a better time to talk to her. No. That was just an excuse. It had already been several days. There would be no benefit to waiting another.

With a heavy sigh, and still no clue what he would say, Andres got out of the car and made his way into the building. He stood in the entrance for some time, where he could see Andro, but she couldn't see him. She was as beautiful as ever, but like him, she looked pained, suffering. He couldn't leave things the way they were. He stepped forward, and into view, but words escaped him, the air in his lungs fleeing off and hiding behind the booth and chairs, leaving him completely helpless and alone. Heart beating out of his chest, all he could manage was to look in her direction, hoping she could save him from the lack of oxygen.

'Can tonight hurry up already? I have ice cream calling my name.......' Monae's eyes glanced around the empty bar as boredom showed on her features. She was not feeling the slowness of this day. She wanted to call Andres. Maybe they needed to talk about what happened. Maybe.

She pulled out her phone and pulled up his contact. 'Call him? Message him? Should I just leave him alone?'

A deep sigh passed her lips as she placed her phone back into her pocket. She couldn't bring herself to talk to him right now. What would she say? What could he say? The awkwardness between them would only make things worse.

"Why him......?" The words whispered their way out of her lips as she shook her head.

By the grace of God, Andres made it through the day by aiding Cedric with his case. Patrick made no attempts to bother him while he had that security blanket, but Andres knew he couldn't cling to that forever. He would have to solve his own problems. But for now, he just didn't know how to do that...

Usually, a feeling of relief came with getting home from work. This time, that feeling was replaced with a sense of emptiness. The Monday that keeps on giving. After an hour of sitting in front of the TV, trying to get his  mind right, he pulled out his phone. He needed to face Andro....

Fingers flew across the screen to type out the message.

"We need to tal-"

Delete.

Those words never meant anything good. Let's try again

"Can we meet up for Coffee-"

Delete.

They had both seen Luke Cage. Coffee didn't have the same meaning anymore.

Three more attempts and he just gave up. He had no other choice. He grabbed his keys, and went out to the car...

Monae gathered her books, haphazardly throwing them into her bag before waiting for the herd to push it's way out of the doors. She wasn't in the mood for fake conversation with her classmates, she just wanted today to be over with.

'At least the first part of my day is over with. Maybe, just maybe, things can turn around and get me out of my funk at work. Well.....that's if anybody show's up tonight. Gotta love Mondays..... She sighed deeply then stood and followed the last few stragglers out of the room, but instead of following the rest of the pack back to the dorms, she headed toward her apartment to change and head into more time for her her to wander with her thoughts.

Roughly 20 minutes later, Monae opened her front door, and in response, her fat cat ran toward her feet. "Hi my baby. Did you miss me? You know, you're the only man that hasn't lied to me. Why can't more men be like you?" She scooped up the ball of fluff as he meowed first in protest only to purr once he got comfortable. A night off is what she needed but she knew that she couldn't afford it.

Monae took a moment to pet Akiva before she stood to get ready for work. 'Already 15 minutes behind. Gotta get moving because I don't feel like being late. 10 minutes and a quick shower later, Monae was walked out of her front door to continue her day.....

There's nothing worse than a Monday... Except THIS Monday. This Monday was like the Monday from Hell; The Monday to which all other Mondays aspire! Patrick was riding
Andres' ass all day, and it was taking everything in Andres not to floor him and lose his job!

Andres was never allowed to work his own cases, only assist with others. Was this what it meant to be a lawyer? If so, he was sure he should have pursued a career in Marine Biology like Andro.... Dammit! Right back in the feels... Why did this have to happen! What was he supposed to do? Apologize? Thank her? Admit that he didn't even remember the night? One thing was for certain; He couldn't pretend it didn't happen...

"This is no time for a nap, ese!" Patrick again... "I thought you people were supposed to be hard working!"

Just as Andres fist pounded into his desk, a voice called out his name from across the office. Patrick's saving grace. Andres turned to see that it was Cedric, one guy in the office that wasn't too bad. "Can you come take a look at this for me?" The only other black man in the office asked. With a huff, Andres got up and approached the man, wondering what busy work he had for him.

When he arrived, he was greeted with empathetic eyes. "I'm sorry man." Cedric said with a hushed voice. "That wasn't cool."

"I'm not even Mexican." Andres said, shaking his head. Andres had a complex lineage, but could most easily be described as Black and Puerto Rican. He sighed and took a look at his savior's computer as if investigating something throroughly.

"I know everyone gives you a hard time because you're the newbie." Cedric said. "But it'll get better man. You just gotta stick it through, and try not to kill anyone." He said with a laugh.

"Thanks. I'll do my best..." Andres said. But it still wasn't even lunchtime yet...

How could she tell her best friend about the weekend that passed? Would Lynx understand how much she regretted the actions that she had taken. Though, as her best friend spoke, Lynx’s words seemed to pass through her ears without the time to process in her mind. She wanted to talk to Andres. She wanted to take this weekend back but life doesn’t work that way. How could she bring herself to focus on the day? Hell, work after class is how insult is added to injury.

It wasn’t until they sat down in the remaining seats that Andro realized that she was on autopilot to keep her tears in check on the walk to class. But without missing a beat, Andro grabbed her graffitied notebook and began the letter to Lynx.

“My best friend from high school, Andres, he came to hang out with me at work on Friday and as usual when he comes in, I try to get him trashed like the old days because I know that he was a safe place to sleep it off. Hell, our friendship was at the point of him having a change of clothes at my place. Something was different about this weekend, something made him accept my offer to drink and that’s where things went downhill. He had my ‘On Your Ass; drinks and he had to make the wall his best friend for part of the night for balance. The ride back to my apartment held the same weirdness as the rest of the night. We didn’t drone on about our lives and attempt to catch up; it was a silence that only led into the already present sexual tension between us. I guess you can imagine the rest from there, but, I want to make sure that you know this all boils down to being my fault. I shouldn’t have tried anything while the two of us had been drinking. I wish i I could take back what I did. I want to talk to him. So badly, but with the way we parted ways. I feel like it’s not going to do anything except for make things even more awkward. I need your help on this one. I don’t want to lose my best friend but I don’t know how hot tell him how I feel about what happened between us.” Andro slowly closed the notebook and wiped the tears away from her eyes. She hadn’t noticed when they started streaming down her cheeks in silent protest. Her left hand passed the notebook to the woman beside her with a hesitation that she had not felt in a while.

It was a long weekend. Shouldn't that be enough to say? Lynx was muttering about her weekend and she could sense it  was a welcomed distraction.

"Did I tell you I met someone this weekend?" Lynx could sense the need to reduce the tension on the walk to Myneque Hall. It was clear across campus and the shuttle had just pulled off as Lynx met up with Andro. "He wasn't too interesting though, all brawns and no brains", Lynx continued. "You know how I like them; strong but smart as well. I don't know, I would've even settled for street smarts but he seemed like a 'Rah Rah' creatine type of guy." Lynx chuckled. Lynx felt the distance. Where was Andro's mind? "And I let him hit it of course" Lynx stated something that she knew would get her distraught friends attention. "Just making sure you were paying attention. I know your mind is somewhere else." Lynx stated as she looked at her friends face change to complete embarrassment. "Lets just get to class.Lets just hope Professor Schmitz let's us out on time. This walk is too long to miss another shuttle", Lynx said through shallow breaths. Lynx had a horrible case of asthma. Lynx and Andro arrived at Myneque Hall just in time. Lynx took a puff of medicine from her inhaler. The two walked into class where too empty seats in the back remained unclaimed. This had to be fate. They settled into their desk. Lynx prepared herself for the unexpected and Andro started writing down the weekends start in her notebook. The pen seemed to form the words before they came out of Andro's mind. The next line seemed impossible to write but Lynx wanted to truly know what could upset and trip up her closest friend to become speechless and tearful.

"Let's get this over with." She mumbled to herself as her eyes scanned the parking lot for anyone except for Lynx that would've tried to stop her to talk. She was not in the mood for people, schoolwork, work, or even being alone. She just knew that things went too fast and too far with her best friend and things couldn't be any worse.

The sound of Lynx's horn scared her half to death but it was a welcomed sound. Lynx was the best friend that a girl could ask for. Even though they did not meet until freshman year, it seemed as if the two knew each other for their entire lives.

"I missed you too. Work had me busy for the beginning half but the worst thing possible happened and I do not know where to begin." A tear fell onto Lynx's shoulder during the shared embrace. "Let's get to class before we're late. We can pass notes in a notebook if we sit far enough towards the back of the class." Andro attempted a smile, only for it to turn into a half hearted attempt that hardly kept the tears at bay.

Monday...

Andres wasn't ready for this... After a hasty retreat Friday morning, he called out from the office and flew home to nurse a killer hangover. He and Andro hadn't spoken since then, and he wasn't sure what to do. After being in love with this girl almost half his life, he gets  drunk and screws her?! He couldn't even remember it! Water ran over mocha colored skin like raindrops in the forest as he cursed himself for the millionth time and lathered his cloth and tried to figure out how he would ever look her in the eye again! Even being in the shower made him feel dirty. He washed quickly and got out to dry.

Suit. Tie. Socks. Shoes. **** breakfast. He grabbed a nutri bar on the way out the door, but never got around to opening it. He didn't feel the drive home. His mind was in other places the entire time. He blinked twice, and he was at the office. Something else to stress over. He was in no mood to put up with people. But bills had to get paid. He had barely gotten in the door when Patrick made his approach.he didn't remember his first name, but with a last name like Patrick, who needed to? He was one of those trust fund white boys. You know the type. Frat boy. Everything handed to him. Ultimate sense of self-entitlement.  Andres could feel his eyes rolling before they even made contact.

"Where were you Friday, ese?" There was that cheesy grin.

"Not today, Patrick." Andres walked by without eve. Stopping to acknowledge him. Patrick was not pleased with this.

"Oh, got some bass in your voice today! Did the baby finally get his dick wet?" He laughed as he mused over how hilarious he was! " That why you took Friday off? Had to wait until your legs were working."

Deep breaths. Count to ten....

"Has there been any change in the Simmons case since Thursday?" Damn fool had no idea how close to home he had hit! It took everything in Andres not to knock him on his ass! If this was how the whole day would be, it couldn't end soon enough...

It seemed like just another typical day. The sun was shining as only it does. The heat was beeming through the crack in her curtain whispering to her to rise out of bed. It always seems so hard to get out of bed on a Monday. Nevertheless, she was running late for class. Professor Schmitz will never let her live it down if shewas late. He is always saying "Lynx, dont you have an alarm? If I am here, you need to be here." Thanks 'Dad'.  She scurried out of bed and approached the tiny mirror above her dresser. Today was going to take longer to get ready for. The presentation at the end of class would be brutal and she knew it. She was prepared though. Heck, she had prepared for this all semester. This course would make of break her senior year. She had been with Andro throughout the last three years and was ready to graduate with degree in hand. The words her mother stated to her as she drunk a sip of her sweet Merlot resonated with her in this moment. "Lynx, dont you wann be better than me" (hiccup). Her mother was right.  Lynx wanted to make zomething of her life. The drive to school was never fun. You could tell it had just rained that morning. The way the dew just barely kissed the grass. The dreaded five minute light on 13th and Mercury was to much handle at an hour like this.  Road rage began to set in as Lynx looked at the clock on her dashboard. She had to be patient. She contemplated running the red light.the risk was not as good as the taste of life she held. As zhe approached the student parking lot zhe spotted Andro through bushes that seemed to enclose the campus. "Honk". Andro immediately turned around. You would've thought she saw a ghost. Lynx parked her car, paid the meter, and approached Andro. "My friend, I have missed you this weekend", Lynx stated as she embraced Andro. Andro's face read a different feeling but what she said next would shock Lynx to the core.

'His scent. I could enjoy that everyday for the rest of my life....' Her arm draped across his waist tensed slightly as she pulled herself closer to enjoy the feeling of having him in her arms for the moment. Whatever made its way into Andro's body last night seemed to be just the thing that they needed.

The memory of his his hands exploring her body made her womanhood tremble with excitement. Although, she still had the fear of this ruining their friendship, since, she did wait until he was drunk to make a move on him. Everything in her body hoped that she had not ruined all the years that the two of them invested in their friendship, their partnership, the thing that brought and kept the two of them together after all these years.

A kiss to his left shoulder, then the center of his collarbone and a final one on his lips in an attempt to wake the sleeping man. "Good morning sleeping head. The sun says hello and the birds would like for you to join them on this gorgeous morning," she placed another kiss on his lips before she reluctantly pulled herself away from him to begin breakfast for the two of them and her beloved Akira.

Kadira had to admit. She half expected John to refuse to get up and come to the dance floor with them. She was pleasantly surprised when he got up and really let loose! It was a side of him she hadn't expected existed, and she liked that! People were always full of surprises! Hours passed without her realizing it, and the bar was preparing to close. She had already gotten John's number earlier, but Tranquila was a different story. Also... "Tranquila. Do you have a car?" She asked as the music stopped. "How are you getting home? She was prepared to give the woman a ride to wherever she was staying. It was the least she could do for her new friend.

Hearing Kadira call him, sighing to himself, John rose from the bar and turned to the two women. "Oh alright.." He chuckled, making his way over to the two and nodded. "I'm here now. I guess lets get this party started." Then, he smiled and began to dance; letting the music flow through himself as though he were an empty canvas being washed by the rains of a dance master. In truth this was the first time John had ever been on a dance floor but he'd been taught by his older brother; Landon, and sister, Katalina; whom were both excellent dancers. Figuring the night was still young, dancing couldn't be that bad; definitely worth a shot to see if he could dance better than he could apparently communicate verbally.

The music had almost made him forget his earlier failure as he smiled to the two women; his intoxication to the music beginning to spread through his body. "Whoo! Excellent tunes man." He spoke without hesitation, though instantly internally regretting what he'd just said; hating that he'd just made himself sound like someone from the 80s, or some surfer. Shrugging it off, though, John started to cut loose; attempting to fall in line with his two beautiful companions.

Tranquila wasn't really accustomed to the music that was being played currently; it all lacked the particular rhythm that she was used to, but it was still rather enjoyable music. Being one who was somewhat unaccustomed to dancing; the moves always seemed to come naturally. She spent most of her time caring for her father and being raised in his image; a woman who could care for herself, fix things, cook, clean, and care for others. She was even taught how to fight. But dancing? Nah. It was in the blood, not in muscle memory. The way her his swayed against the body of Kadira would have made it seemed she was a seasoned vet. The way her arms moved rhythmically with the music would give the impression that Tranquila knew the song that was being played. Soon, the immigrant who just washed ashore; outfit not fitting for the place she calls a dance floor, suddenly making waves with the other woman amidst the crowd. She was starting to have so much fun that she didn't even notice that Kadira had called her friend over to dance with them. The drinks were settling in, the atmosphere was addicting, the dancing was thrilling, at least Tranquila could forget about the bad news that is her life for a few hours, right? Just dance and enjoy herself for a change, hell, it's been several years since she been away to actually enjoy herself.

It was clear that Tranquila was being cautious. She was watching Kadira and John, studying their mannerisms, and determining whether they were safe company. Kadira couldn't blame her; After all, they were strangers in a completely different land than she was used to. Kadira had to admit, sometimes she needed that trait. She was often entirely too open with any and everyone she met, even her interactions with John, Andres, and Tranquila were proof of that.

But that was just the way she was! She saw the best in people on sight, which made her excellent at making friends. John on the other hand, was a bit socially awkward, but Kadira felt like he was a good guy, and enjoyed his company. When he apologized to Tranquila, Kadira tried unsuccessfully to stop herself from giggling. He really had the best of intentions. But he had probably never been in a situation like this one. He was trying his best though, and she had to commend him for that.

When Tranquila said she didn't really know the music, Kadira shook her head. "That's fine!" she said, taking the woman by the hand and leading her to the dance floor, where she began to dance, until she saw John still at the bar. "What are you waiting for sour-puss? Come on!" She waved him over to join the two. Hopefully he would join them, but he was so reserved, she thought he might deny her. Regardless, she swayed her hips to the music, starting to feel the effects of her second drink as a wave of calm flowed into her movements. There were a lot of things she wanted to know about her companions, but for now, she just wanted to have a good time!

Blinking, he looked to Kadira and felt disappointed in himself for getting it wrong. "Oi..." He sighed as he shook his head, hating that he'd made himself feel like an idiot. "Thank you, at least, for explaining that." Then, he paused for a second. "Knew I should've taken that class in college.."

Then, looking to Tranquilia, and back to Kadira, he realized he didn't really fit into this current conversation and figured he should apologize, at least for making himself look like an idiot; or very likely, more. Looking back to Tranquilia, he nodded and spoke again. "I'm sorry." He didn't really know what else to say, but this entire situation was beginning to feel at least slightly uncomfortable for him.
