Over the past weeks, Adonis had started to wonder if Luck was a real thing. While things in his life had been going reasonably smoothly, things for Thalia and Pandora not so much. Pan was going through that awkward period where being a Goddess surrounded by humans made her feel like an outcast, and it made her want to push her parents away. She had always been a Daddy’s girl, but for the past few weeks, he could tell that she had begun to resent him, and her mother for what they were, and thus, what they had made her.  The rain was consistently rainy, or stormy, they had even had snow once! Something difficult to explain away in early September.

Thalia was no better off. With Pandora now in High School, and pursuing goals and dreams, it was only natural that she feel inadequate. She spent less and less time at home, often leaving before the sun rose, and not returning until well after it fell. She abandoned her job at the bar, but she often seemed tired.  When Adonis asked her about it, she wouldn’t tell him what was wrong, or where she went on the daily. And she covered her tracks well, as not to be followed. It was clear that she had no intention of allowing him to aid her in whatever it was she was going through…

Adonis was worried, to say the least. He had considered sending Pandora to a different school, one where she wouldn’t feel like such an outsider for being… Different. But then, doing that could have exactly the opposite effect. She wanted to fit in, not to be removed… It was a lot to consider.

Meanwhile, Thalia had a classmate who was about to turn her whole world upside down. It was rare that deities met their worshippers in this day and age, but Anthony Wilder was a devout worshipper of the Goddess of Fortune. He was a friendly man, likely in his mid-thirties. He had a slight pudge, and thick glasses. On the first day of class, he took a liking to Thalia because her name was the same as the Goddess. And before every Test, he always wished for the Goddess to look over the both of them. Little did he know, he was praying directly to her face…

Without any luck. That was how she was going to get through her education.

The classroom buzzed with life as students flooded in and chose their seats, readying for the lecture that was soon to come. The scent of college text books, aftershave mixed with perfume, and cedar rafters from along the frame of the ceiling, infiltrated the atmosphere. As apprehensive as Thalia was, she was just as excited to begin her studies. Unaware of her starting school, Adonis was probably out doing his usual runs without any inclination that his wife, a goddess of good fortune, was sitting in a university surrounded by a sea of mortal faces which belonged to people centuries younger than her. Her forever frozen, youthful appearance blended well among the children there. If anything, she appeared mid-twenties, if not younger.

Throughout her life, she had never considered an education, but after Pandora came along and started her schooling, something within Thalia had felt inadequate. Broken even. Here she was a mother, but she could hardly read anything above seventh grade level. She wanted to learn to better help Pandora when she came home with homework. Several years ago while Pan was asleep, she had snuck a book out of her bookbag to read. That was the start. When Adonis had caught her studying from their daughter's textbooks, he had been supportive. She played it off. It really was not that big of a deal. Thalia felt more insecure about it all than anything, which was why she was sitting in the very back row where no one would feel inclined to first look.

Still, Thalia had tried to keep going back to school a secret. Despite Adonis being supportive, she wanted to know she could do this herself. If she failed, she would not have to tell him and face that kind of disappointment.

The tip of her eraser rapped against the rigid spine of her notebook. Two women sat on either side of her. Both were too busy talking to their friends to notice her. Suddenly, the girl to her left laughed and threw back her elbow in her elation, knocking over Thalia's coffee. The brown liquid drenched her textbook before she could remove it from the table.

The girl apologized, while Thalia tried to clean up the mess.

"No luck," she vowed, mentally.

They cleaned up the mess and placed her book on a table in the corner to dry, just as the teacher walked in. Nearly every girl released a giggle. The teacher was a young man with a pair of sunglasses perched on the bridge of his nose. She was less impressed than the others, but she still understood their reaction. Without being prompted, she opened her notebook to the first page and arched the pen in her hand. Instead of immediately starting the studies, he passed out a stack of forms to the class.

"This is just to see what everyone knows and to get to know my students better," he explained, moving down the rows. "Don't worry, these will not be for a grade. Begin now and turn it in on my desk after the class is over."

Once she got the papers, she skimmed over the questions. At first, it was nothing bad. Just what her name was and some random information about herself, but then the questions changed.

Question #8:
Name five socialization theories and how theories have evolved from the original socialists.

Question #9:
How does Mead's theory apply to society?

Thalia frowned and simply stared at the questions while students around her filled out the papers in silence.

"No luck," she muttered beneath her breath, bitterly.

Pandora sat on he bed, forehead pressed against her knees. She had been in this position for what seemed like forever; Ever since she was sure Adonis and Thalia were out of the house, and doubled back instead of going to school. Outside, Rain fell from the sky like the next coming. It wasn't a thunder, or wind storm, just a ceaseless downpour.

Around lunchtime, she heard a knock at the door, but made no move to answer it. She knew who it was. Only moments later, Brittanye came through the door. Brittanye was a pretty girl; Biracial, with long brown hair and light brown eyes. She was shapely. Moreso than Pandora, at least, and had a beauty mark just to the left of her mouth.

She made her way over to the bed and took a seat. "You can't keep missing school like this."  She told the young Goddess. No reply. "Pan, we're going to be seniors next year, we can't start falling off now!" Still nothing. It was impossible to get to Pandora when she was like this. So they just sat in silence for some time.

Brittanye looked out Pandora's window at the water falling from the sky. "Have you ever noticed you always get like this when it's raining?" She asked. How many times had she trekked through the rain to check on Pandora, and found her in this exact state?

Pandora looked up for the first time. Brittanye's observation was estute, but inaccurate. Pandora wasn't sad because it was raining; It was raining because she was sad. And she was sad because it rained whenever she got sad! For most people, Finding out you're a God would probably be the greatest day of their life! But not for Pandora. Her emotions had been in constant flux since the day she found out. And as the Goddess of weather, her surroundings always reacted! Thunderstorms when she was angry, Sunshine when she was happy! She literally affected the lives of everyone around her with what she was feeling! And all she wanted was to be normal!

"I'm fine." She said. "You're going to miss Mr. Martin's class. You should go back."

But her best friend simply shook her head. "I'm not going back without you."

"Guess we're not going back then." Pandora said, as she returned her head to her knees.

And they didn't. They simply sat there, staring at the baby blue walls...

"You put yourself in these embarrassing situations  because you panic instead of thinking things through."

Thalia's lower lip extended out beneath the upper in a subtle pout as those words sunk in. Of course she hardly thought things through! What fun was it otherwise?

She was prepared for the break-up speech. It was odd, to be on the receiving end of it for once especially considering they were not really together. Usually, a man would simply stop calling and blatantly ignore her attempts to reach him. But never did one ever give her a speech.

Her eyes fell to the embrace of their hands. Something dark flashed across her features. It was quick, but not fast enough to be unnoticed. Just as his fingers laced through hers, Lexie uttered a painful moan and retracted her hand. The surprise was still evident, but it was due to the sudden jolt of pain more so than his action.

Thalia seemed not to notice as she gazed up at Adonis, awaiting his speech.

When he spoke, she mirrored Lexie's expression: pain and surprise. Pain for all the time lost and spent agonizing over the past, and surprise over the obvious. He loved her too.

Not Lexie- the gymnast/model/cook/nurse. But Thalia who deemed winning a hotdog contest as a bonafide, resume worthy accomplishment.

"Yes," she sputtered, holding out her left hand so that the ring could be placed.

She tried to sum up a poetic response that would make Shakespeare proud, instead, she smiled and said, "thanks."

She couldn't give an account for all the things she had wanted to say over the past year. All the rollercoaster emotions and the repressed desires, were just too much to explain. Especially with an audience.

"Thanks so much Lexie!" Thalia jumped up and hugged the woman who even in surprise and a bit in pain, looked more majestic and beautiful than most goddesses did on their best days. "I cannot pay you back for everything. I hope you don't mind, but-"

She led her to the door by the arm. "-I am not feeling well. But hey, we will- I mean I will give you a call."

Opening the door, she gave the woman one last hug and a generous kiss on the cheek. "Good night, beautiful."

Then, once the girl's last toe had made it safely out of the doorway, she slammed the door and turned to Adonis.

She smirked. "Now to get you back."

It wasn't hard to guess how Thalia felt about Lexie. It was in everything from her facial expression to her tone, and yet, Lexie seemed impervious to it, as if she didn't even notice? Could she really be that oblivious? Adonis wasn't sure, but he couldn't help but chuckle when Thalia asked about her also being a chef. "Not to my knowledge." He answered. But the taste of the meal suggested that Thalia may have been on the money.

When Lexie came back and Thalia offered to do the dishes, Adonis smiled. At least she was trying. "They're already done." Lexie said. "This was a treat for you! I didn't want you to have to work!" Even Adonis had to admit, all of this did come across as suspicious, despite Lexie's good intentions. When he was prompted to speak, he had an opportunity to clear the air, but instead, he was interrupted, and Lexie ejected from the room.

Adonis looked down as she took his hand in hers. Her hand was soft as he remembered, but lacked the strength and confidence he had so admired. She hesitated, and trembled, as if she feared his touch, but eventually the words did come. Her confession started with words of the pain she had endured under a roof with him. Adonis attempted to stop her, but she wouldn't allow it.

When words wouldn't come to her the way she wished, she released his hand. Adonis half expected her to get up and leave him alone at the table, but instead, she ripped the chain from her neck. Adonis had caught glimpses of the chain here and there, but it was only when he saw what hung from the chain that his eyes widened. His ring... She had worn it on her all this time...

When she made her final plea, The God of Love closed his eyes and sighed, before laughing to himself. "I really feel sorry for you." He said, as he wiped his mouth, and stood up from the table, summoning Lexie to their side once more.

He walked toward the side of the table as he spoke."You put yourself in these embarrassing situations  because you panic instead of thinking things through." He laced his fingers in Lexie's as she arrived at his side, much to the gymnasts surprise. "Lexie came here to make sure I told you..."

Dramatic pause.

"That I never stopped loving you either." That signature mischievous grin played on his face as he stepped away from a flustered Lexie and toward Thalia. "And that I would be honored, if you would put this ring back on your finger, where it belongs." He couldn't help himself. She had set herself up too perfectly for him not to take advantage of it. Besides, he still owed her for her last prank. But all jokes aside, he was glad that she confessed before he did. It actually made it much easier. Now if she could just get past his prank, and not kill him for it...

The same confusion reflected in Adonis' gaze as she turned to see him descend the stairs. Or perhaps, she read it wrong. Could it be... uncertainty? A frown painted her lips as she looked to Lexie who almost immediately excused herself, leaving Adonis alone with her.

She gave him a gentle smile. The last thing she wanted was to be rude and she started to feel as though she had been. Whatever was going on between Adonis and Lexie was between them. If anything, Adonis and Thalia were still friends.

It stung just thinking the word.

A silver chain hung around her neck as it often did. She only shed it when he would be able to see what hung on it. Usually, her clothes hid the ring, not unlike the dress she wore now did. It would just complicate things.

"Thanks," she said, sitting down in the chair he offered. "Went through with what?"

Making a meal? She blinked and looked down at the table and then back up at him. What had Lexie to say that was so important?

What if Lexie was now trying to fix them up and this was sort of double date? She blanched at the thought and quickly poured herself a glass of wine.

"Yes," she agreed, once her stomach had settled down enough to accept a forkful of chicken. "Let me guess. She's a chef too."

Adonis had been right. The woman turned food into heacen on the tongue. With the blend of spices, texture, and even the appearance, the woman had made possibly the best meal Thalia had ever eaten.

The next few minutes passed without incident. Mercilessly, the silence dragged on, drowning them in it. Soon, Lexie came out.

"Let me do the dishes," Thalia insisted, ignoring her question. "It's not fair for you to have to slave away cooking a meal and then not eat with us."

She was about to get up when Lexie asked Adonis a question that glued her to her seat. Eyes darkened by the shadow of full eyelashes, landed on him. Breath bated, she measured his expression, trying to get an idea of what he needed to tell her.

The worst came to mind: he and Lexie were announcing their relationship. Her stomach churning, she cleared her throat hurriedly. Shoulders back, back straight, and flushed alabaster cheeks, she held her hand out, calling for a timeout.

"Wait," she said, a bit breathless as fear caused her chest to tighten. "I-"

She looked to Lexie, unsure of her presence.

"I'm really sorry, but I think I know what you want to tell me. Can I just speak with Adonis alone for a moment?" She was sincere in her apology, but not enough to change her mind.

She waited for Lexie to go. When she had left the room, she leaned forward and shyly took one of his hands in hers. Thalia searched his eyes for a moment before taking a breath and speaking.

"Before you say anything, let me speak," she insisted gently. "These last few months have been torturous. I get it. I made a mistake and left."

Her eyebrows scrunched in pain at the recollection of the memory.

"I have tried everything, but now I know I can't..." She looked down and shook her head.

This was harder than she thought it would be. She withdrew her hand from his and ripped off the chain around her neck without remorse. Holding it out to him, she showed him the ring.

"I never stopped wanting you," she said, lowering the chain to the table as she held his gaze levelly. "Please, give me another chance."

This was her last ditch effort. If parading around in her underwear and this didn't work, she knew nothing would.

Lexie would hear none of Thalia's objections. Once she and Adonis were both upstairs, she got to work. She didn't know the kitchen well, and had some trouble finding things without assistance, but by the time an hour had passed, she had finished preparing the meal.

Thalia arrived first. When she did, there would be two plates prepared. Chicken Parmesan with a side of soup and Garlic bread. Adonis would arrive not long after her, clad in a white button up, and black blazer and slacks. He wore no tie this time, instead, leaving his top buttons undone, giving a peek at his upper pectoral muscles. She said get sexy, right? "You two go on and eat." Lexie said. "I still have to wash the dishes."

With that, she excused herself to the kitchen, leaving Adonis and Thalia to their meal. The table was covered in a pristine white cloth, and candles were lit around a glass centerpiece. Adonis pulled out Thalia's chair before making his way to his own. "I can't believe she really went through with this..." He said. Embarrassment had abducted his face, hiding his normally confident features behind a veil of uncertainty. "Well, it looks good!" He said, before cutting into the chicken, and taking a bite. It was immaculately seasoned!  Adonis wasn't oblivious to Thalia's discomfort and and confusion though, so he didn't push it too much. "Not bad." He said, nodding his head in calm approval.

Several minutes had passed before Lexie appeared, with a rag in her hand. "How is everything guys?" She asked with eyes full of hope. "It's great. We really appreciate it!" Adonis said happily. His plate was all but finished.

"I'm glad to hear it." She said. But her happiness on her face was quickly replaced with curiosity. "So have you told her yet?"

Death would be a sweet alternative to being hugged by the embodiment of perfection itself. Every inch of the nearly six foot tall model was laced with ethereal beauty. Her scrunched up-do, oversized sweater that fell just short of her knees, and makeup-less face, paled in comparison to the beaut that graced them with her presence.

How she longed for an inconvenient stick misplaced in front of the door for the woman to trip over. She watched Adonis curiously as he welcomed her in. Why did he seem so surprised? And was it a good surprise or a bad surprise? She probed his expression, but it revealed nothing satisfying.

"Yes, you too," she said, attempting a smile, but failing miserably. Her lips turned to a grimace as she hugged her in return. "Let me guess. Another scheme to hook us up?"

Liz wanted the best for her, but this was seriously getting out of hand. Thalia glanced at Adonis, uncertainty flooding her expression.

"Look, I appreciate the thought, but I'm okay single."

This was as much as a lie as it was true. She wanted Adonis, not another man. Since Adonis did not want her, she was okay with the single life.

Not understanding just how damning her words were, she shook her head and protested against Lexie's persistence, but to little avail. Upstairs, she dressed and readied herself for what she presumed to be another trainwreck for a date.

She steeled herself and looked in the mirror, meeting her own gaze as she thought.

There was no way she could keep pining over Adonis. All they shared together was a ten pound bundle of growing cuteness. No matter what she felt, she could not hold him back from what he desired- even if what he desired was Lexie.

She groaned, stood up, and walked out of her room toward her impending doom.

Thalia wore a simple red dress, with her hair down and straightened. Her eyes were outlined with thin lines of black, emphasizing their almond shape. When she went downstairs, she was expecting to see Liz, her man, and a new candidate selected by Liz. But, no one was else had arrived.

Adonis opened his eyes slowly when Thalia jumped onto his bed, shaking him from his slumber. Before he could show a hint of frustration, his eyes caught the robe that she wore, and how it rose enough that he could just barely see a hint of the round curve of her bottom when she bent forward. Why did she have to torture him first thing in the morning?

But before he could speak, she was dragging him down the stairs to where Pandora was laying. Still half groggy, he watched as Thalia beckoned the baby, as if expecting her to get up and walk over. At first, Pandora did nothing. She just sat there. but eventually she sat up, and reached for her mother, warranting a smile from her father, and an incredibly excited reaction from Thalia. "Pancakes and Steak sounds great." He said.

For the rest of the week, things went incredibly smoothly, with the exception of the increased sexual tension in the house. Thalia seemed to be conveniently keep getting caught ****, or in bra and panties. Adonis was good at playing it cool, but it was slowly killing him! Other than that though, they were getting along though!

On Friday, they were sitting on the couch watching TV when the doorbell rang. Adonis got up to answer it, and when he opened it, he stood wide eyed when Lexie came in, carrying a ton of grocery bags! "What are you doing?"  She asked him, seeing that he was dressed in blue jeans and a tshirt. "Go get dressed!" She said as she pushed past him toward the kitchen, spotting Thalia on the couch. "Thalia! You're not dressed either!"

She turned to Adonis with narrowed eyes. "You forgot, didn't you!"

Adonis was still standing at the front door. "I didn't think you were serious!" He said as he closed the door. He had talked to Lexie on the phone once since their date the previous weekend, and he hadn't been convinced that she was serious about coming over to cook.

She let out a huff and flipped her hair in her face. "Of course I was serious!" She said, as she made her way over to the couch and took Thalia by the hand, and pulling her from the couch to give her a hug. "It's good to see you again!" She said sincerely. "Now both of you go get sexy right now! You have one hour!" She shooed them both upstairs and made her way into the kitchen. Those two clearly needed more of a push than she had realized...

Adonis was not even home yet! She could just imagine what sort of mischief he was up to with that no good blonde! No matter, his absense meant that she was able to get more alone cuddle time with Pandora; after a bath that was. But as she was paying the babysitter, headlights swept across the windows. The sitter left just as Adonis was coming in.

Pandora was fast asleep in the playpen in the living room, leaving them to bask in each other's company. Secretly, or not so secretly considering how terrible she was at being sneaky, she looked him over for any hint of eyeliner marks or lipstick stains. She recalled their first date and wondered if he had kissed Lexie on their first date too. It was all so torturous!

Long night?

She glared at him then, noting how he laughed and gazed at her happily. So. He had a great time. Great!

"Yeah, I guess," she replied lamely.

She glanced down at herself at that and realized just how bad she must look. No! She realized how suggestive she looked. Did Adonis not care what happened between her and Darrin? She couldn't believe him. It was evident that he was no longer in love with her, but couldn't he manage just to look a little annoyed?

"Glad to see one of us had a good night," she growled, no longer caring how pathetic it was for her to be angry.

Really, it wasn't his fault, but she was exhausted, dirty, and hurt. She didn't even have enough nerve to ask him if him and Lexie were going back out. It wasn't her business anymore what he did.

"Well, goodnight," she muttered, deflated. Whatever anger had been aroused was gone. There was no reason for her to act like a child and throw a tantrum. Besides, she really did want him to be happy.

"There is mud everywhere!" she exclaimed in disgust as she looked down at her dress.

Lexie may have been a renown gymnast with a nice physique, but Thalia felt obligated out of the kindness of her heart, to remind him one did not have to be an athelete to be flexible or appealing.

-

Early the next morning, Thalia quickly went into his room and jumped on his bed.

"Adonis!" she said, her voice projecting much more than intended in her excitement.

Without waiting for him to get fully awake, she took him by the hand and guided him out of bed and into the living room. There in the middle of the floor, was their daughter laying on her back looking up at them quizzically.

Thalia knelt and clapped her hands in front of her. "Watch this. Come here Pandy."

The baby did not immediately respond, but after a few moments of encouraging claps, she sat up all by herself and held her hands out to be picked up. Thalia took her in her arms and giggled.

"She sat up all by herself!" she said, grinning at Adonis. "This calls for pancakes and steak!"

Hearing steak, Avalanche came up and barked.

Thalia took the child into the kitchen and held her on her hip as she began whisking up some pancake mix.

Lexie had no objections about going to the fair. "Sure! We'll pay everyone's way! Only fair since we had such a lucky streak tonight!"

So they did exactly that. Adonis paid for three tickets, and Lexie paid for the other three. Once again, Liz and Mat took off on their own. They absolutely sucked at discretion. This time, however, Thalia and Darrin went off alone as well. It seemed that somewhere between the front door, the Casino, and the Fair, they were hitting it off a bit better. He smiled as they walked off, and then walked arm-in-arm with his date through the fair. They rode all the rides, ate from way too many booths and tried all of each other's food. It was the perfect example of an ideal date! Adonis even caught a glimpse of Liz and Mat (but mostly Liz) spying on them a couple times! He couldn't help but laugh at how futile their attempts were.

Eventually, they came across a "Tunnel of Love" type thing. Just like in the movies! Lexie saw it first, pointing it out, and they both had a laugh at how tacky it was. So naturally, they had to go in! They were placed in a small boat, designed to look like a log, and sent down a river surrounded in darkness, glow in the dark hearts, stars and other "romantic" imagery filled their surroundings and they laughed until their stomachs hurt!

Then Lexie's expression straightened. It was still a smile, but straight enough for her to speak. "So you're still in love with her, huh?"

Adonis eye shifted her way, but he didn't turn his head. "That obvious, huh?" He was finding it hard to believe that this woman wasn't a Goddess. Hell, she could be his sister!

Even so, their date had caused them to appear as the perfect couple. And that was actually a part of the fun!

"It was obvious from the time we got in the car! Have you told her? You know she's still in love with you too, right?"

Adonis only shook his head. "No. She did once upon of time, but it's different now. She's still attracted to me, but she can't even stand to be around me for long periods of time. I've tried to create opportunities for us to just spend time together, but she's not having it." It was the first time his face wasn't twisted into a smile since their date started. Not a detail she would overlook.

She thumped his forehead in response. "Guys are so dumb! She said teasingly. "She can't be around you BECAUSE she loves you!"

But Adonis couldn't agree with her answer. Thalia wasn't that soft. In fact, more often than not, she was more aggressive than he was! There was no way she would be so timid as to shy away from him out of love like a teenage girl with a crush.

"Darn shame your heart is claimed." She said with a laugh. "A professional model with a sensitive side and a sense of humor? You're quite a catch!"

"Says the Olympic level gymnast that makes children's booboos go away? Hell, I could kick myself right now!

When they got out of the tunnel, Liz and Mat showed up. They were ready to go, but Adonis and Lexie were still having fun. They told their hosts that they would take a cab. An excited Liz was eager to oblige, and leave without them.

They actually ended up taking more than one cab. The first one took them to a park with a big fountain where they sat and talked for a couple hours. Lexie urged Adonis to come straight out to Thalia about how he felt. She even gave him a deadline!

Despite endless objections from Adonis, they dropped him off at home first, where the lights in the house were already on. He opened the door before giving Lexie one last hug. "Alright, call me!" She said. "I'm serious about this weekend!"

"I will." He said, dismissively laughing off her second statement.

"And TELL HER!" She said as she made her way back to the cab.

Adonis walked in to see that Thalia had only just arrived herself. She was sweaty, her hair was everywhere, and her dress was torn.

"Long night?" He asked with a laugh. Surely they were both aware of what she looked like, but Adonis was no fool. He knew that Darrin wasn't for Thalia. But he wouldn't speak on any of it. He closed the door behind him, and leaned against it, taking in Thalia's appearance. He had seen her look like that many times in the past, after all...

The moment Adonis and Lexie hugged, Thalia just about tempted fate by unleashing a good deal of misfortune upon the woman. Surely the wrath of Hera was worth facing in place of watching the man she was in love with enjoy another's company. The only reason good enough to restrain her from doing it was Pandora. Putting her at risk was never an option.

Thalia ordered herself a few shots during the game. Alcohol seemed to help her cope with the situation.

When Adonis suggested leaving, Thalia did not think twice. She grabbed her things and headed out. Darrin left as well and hurriedly crossed the casino to catch up to her. Once they were out of earshot, he spoke up.

"I told Liz this was a bad idea," he said.

She frowned. "Why is that?"

They had reached the car at that point and were standing on the driver's side.

"Going out on dates with your exes?" He gave a humorless chuckle. "You've not even said a word to me. You've been too busy interrogating your ex's date."

Thalia looked away wishing that she did not blush so easily. She thought over the night and was ashamed of herself. Darrin was right. She had been rather pathetic about all of it. Biting her lower lip, she sighed and nodded.

"You're right. I'm sorry. It's just-"

"Hey!" Liz interrupted, crossing the parking lot with Mat in tow. "Where you guys going?"

Darrin met Thalia's eyes for a second and gave her a half of a smile that said he understood. She smiled in return, grateful that he accepted her apology.

"Fair." Thalia looked around, searching for Adonis and Lex.

"Oh sounds fun!" squealed Liz in delight. Mat on the other hand, looked pale and sick. He unconsciously touched his back pocket where his wallet was and sighed. Thalia could not blame him. He was not a cheapskate by any means, but Liz was an overspender. He loved her enough to not be rich.

As soon as Lexie and Adonis caught up to then, they headed to the fair. This time, Thalia focused through her envy and asked Darrin questions about himself. He seemed much more cooperative than before and his mood lifted. Honestly, he did not seem that bad of a guy.

At the fair, Darrin and Thalia parted ways with Adonis and his date. She doubted she could have handled seeing them together any longer. Thought it was still bothersome to see them go together, she tried to have a decent night with Darrin.

Somehow, they got on the subject of his work and that was all he could talk about. They got food and sat down at a bench and he talked and talked and talked some more about his job.

"So," she said, when he took a breath between sentences. "Would you like to try the octopus? Or one of the other rides?"

Darrin shook his head. "I'm not a huge fan of riding. But about my firm-..."

Thalia smiled, though it was fake, and listened. As he talked, she glanced around, hoping to catch a glimpse of Adonis and Lexie, but she didn't. Suddenly, Darrin touched her arm, pulling her attention back to him.

"Is it alright?" he asked. Two women were standing behind him, watching her.

If she said what, he might think she was thinking about Adonis and Lexie again and get upset. So, she simply said 'yes'.

He grinned and leaned across the table. At first, she stiffened because it looked as if he was going to kiss her. But then, he kissed her cheek and stood up.

"Thanks Thalia, I had a good time," he said. The other women smiled too.

What was happening? Wait, was he leaving?!

"Ugh, yeah, Darrin, me too," she said, dumbfounded.

"If Liz asks, don't tell her I went to the club. Just tell her I got sick and went up. I'll never hear the end of it otherwise. She really wanted us to kick it off," he answered, before giving her one last smile and walking away with the women on either side of him.

The nerve of him! Leaving her here to finish the food all alone! Well, at least there was food. She got up and started walking around the fair, corndog and fries in hand. There was a lover's tunnel on the southside with huge pink and red hearts on the sides. Funny, she would pray to the love god for help, but he was the one she needed help with. Just then, she saw two very familiar people go into the tunnel and her heart shattered.

In that moment, she knew that it was over. She had lost. But then, it was impossible to lose what she didn't have in the first place. On the way out, she ran into Liz and Mat.

"I'm not feeling well," she told Liz. "Darrin is waiting on me at the car to take me home. Can you take Lexie and Adonis home?"

She giggled and wiggled her eyebrows, not registering the undertone of her voice. "Sure thing! You and Darrin have fun being "sick"."

She used air quotes for the word 'sick,' but Thalis hardly noticed as she nodded and walked pass her. It would have been humiliating to have to sit in the back seat with Lexie and Adonis all the way home.

Outside the fair, she went to get her phone out of her bag to call a cab only to find that she had lost it somewhere between the casino and the fair. So she went into the woods away from the people only to remember that she could not use her powers. She groaned and stomped her foot, hurting her toe as she accidentally drove it unto a log.

Looked like it was walking for her. She knew she would have to work hard to beat Adonis home so she opted to cut through the woods and follow a short cut.

Hours later, she was all too aware of her mistake of thinking she could just cut through the woods in high heels and make it home in a timely fashion. If she was lucky, which was doubtful at the moment, he would either be late getting home or Liz would tell him Darrin and her went out for an innocent scoop of ice cream and did not sneak away to have hot, sweaty sex. Knowing her friend however, she was bound to tell him the worse thing. Heck, it wouldn't surprise her if she told him they were on their way to get hitched.

She made a mental note to strangle her friend later.

By the time she got home, she was exhausted and her feet were swollen and her hair was in disarray. She could not wait to take a nice long bubble bath and forget the terrible evening she had had.

Adonis could tell when Thalia was irritated, and this was definitely one of those times. She was digging into Lexie pretty hard, though she was at least able to be discreet about it. Adonis wasn't surprised, really. After all, her date wasn't very engaging. How was it that the Goddess of luck gets paired up with a guy who didn't even seem to want to be there, and he got the hot gymnast nurse? It was all pretty funny actually.

"That's really impressive!" Adonis said, chiming in before Thalia sold herself out. "Maybe you could give Pandora some tumbling lessons when she gets a bit older!"

"That sounds like a lot of fun!" She said, turning her attention back to Adonis once more. "Maybe we can make her into a Gold medalist!" In his mind, Adonis could only think of how unfair that would be. Those mortal women wouldn't have a chance competing against a Goddess with the same training. But he smiled and convincingly agreed nonetheless.

At the Casino, Adonis couldn't help but smile as he took everything in.There was no way he could be there without thinking of his first visit to a Casino with Thalia. That was a night full of twists and turns, and it turned into an adventure that would last forever! Or so he thought...

He shook the thought as their hosts pushed Darrin into Thalia in their haste. They were far from discreet in their intentions. The separate cars, taking off on their own on their arrival. It was clear what they were up to. But they weren't watching well enough to see that it wouldn't work.

The two remaining couples agreed to the roulette table. On the very first round, Adonis followed Lexie to Black 14, leading to their first win. The next round, Lexie followed Adonis to Red 19, leading to their second! They laughed and hugged each other, and agreed to bet together for the duration of their time at the table. They made a killing! But Thalia wasn't doing so hot, being forced to hold back even the slightest bit of her power. Adonis actually felt pretty bad for her. Surely she wasn't used to this.

Adonis checked his watch. It had only been just over an hour since they arrived. It wasn't quite 9 o' clock yet. "What do you guys say we go to the fair? It's it's last week in town, isn't it?" Honestly, he wanted to spare Thalia of her suffering, but he wouldn't tell her that. He looked around for everyone's opinions. Surely Thalia and Darrin wouldn't object. They weren't winning anything anyway! But Lexie might want to stay while her streak was hot!

Thalia worked hard to restrain the emotions bubbling up within her gut as Adonis greeted the girl. He did not seem put off by the change of events in the least. In fact, he appeared to he enjoying it. As they linked arms and went off, she was already contemplating murder.

There were two cars. Liz and Mat rode in one, and the other was for Adonis and Thalia along with their dates. Adonis and Lexie got the back seat to Thalia's dismay. She hardly noticed Darrin open the car door for her. He did not seem to notice her lack of thanks either. Once they were settled, Darrin started to drive.

"So, Lexie, what do you do?" asked Thalia, glancing up into the review mirror to get a glimpse of the girl.

The girl smiled back. "I'm a pediatric nurse. I also do gymnastics when I'm able to."

Gymnastics? Well, that explained why her body was in such good shape.

Shoot me now, she thought silently to herself.

"Oh, that's neat. Like teaching gymnastics?" asked Thalia, raising a brow.

The girl shrugged nonchalantly. "Some, but I am training for the Olympics at the moment."

"Of course you are," Thalia muttered beneath her breath without meaning to.

Leaning forward, the girl wrinkled her brows. "I'm sorry?"

"Four course bar," Thalia said, giving the girl a small smile. "I hope they have a good food bar because I'm starving."

Lexie smiled and nodded before sitting back.

This girl was too good to be true! She was intelligent, modest, kind, flexible, and clearly beautiful.

It was not long before they arrived at the casino. They found Mat and Liz at the entrance, waiting on them.

"I call blackjack!" exclaimed Liz tugging Matt along, but not before she had 'accidentally' pushed Thalia into Darrin.

Darrin scowled at Liz and took a purposeful step to the side away from Thalia.

"Russian Roulette then?" Darrin said without looking at her.

Thalia glanced at Lexie and Adonis. Lexie nodded in response.

"Sounds fun!" she replied, so they headed to the table.

Thalia was not so stupid to flaunt her powers in public, but she deeply wished she could. If Hera could detect her powers, she could find out where she was and show up unannounced. No, if she wanted to win, she would have to do it without any special abilities.

At the end of it, Thalia had lost all her money and Lexie had won a hundred times what she put in. This date was not going as planned at all!

Adonis wasn't surprised when Thalia said she didn't like her hair. He knew she had always taken pride in her long, flowing hair. Adonis had always liked it too. But the change was nice too. He had a feeling she would grow to love it, given some time.

Her attitude when he said he would have agreed to be her date was pretty much as expected. It was the way she acted to keep him at a distance. It was the way he knew that whatever they had was in the past. "Don't blame me because you can't find a decent place!" He said with a laugh. They both knew that their living situation was likely to be permanent, at least until Pandora was older. But they played this game anyway.

Adonis shook his had when Thalia told him how she expected him to look. he made a "pssh" sound before turning back to her. "As if you'd be able to keep your hands off me long enough for us to go anywhere!" He knew well who her favorite men were, and even when they were together, he would have had a hard time competing with Will Smith.

------
"Yeah, almost done." He said, turning to see the Goddess in the doorway.

It sucked that Thalia was so hot. Seeing her in that dress, Adonis' first thought was 'quickie before we leave?' As if that was an option... He played it cool though. It was a talent of his; One that Thalia never possessed. But he never called her out on it. More than likely it was a battle of what her body wanted vs. what her heart wanted. and Adonis wouldn't involve himself in something so messy. He stood still as she adjusted his collar, and smiled as she complimented his jacket. As usual, he didn't speak on her slip up.

A few minutes later he made his way down the stairs. After examining everyone's faces, it didn't take long for him to realize what was happening. The unknown man and woman... They clearly weren't together. Thalia seemed thrown off, and and Liz triumphant. She had arranged dates for the two of them! So much for "tag along buddies!" This could be fun!

Adonis made his way over and greeted everyone before speaking to the woman. "You must be my date. I'm Adonis. It's a pleasure to meet you!" He said, politely planting a kiss on the back of her hand. In response, she giggled. "Well what a gentleman! I'm Alexandria, but you can Call me Lexie!"

"I'll do just that then!" Adonis said with a smile. After kissing Pandora, he made his way out with the group, arm in arm with Lexie before opening the car door for her. This was bound to be an interesting night.

He became too close when he had gotten off the couch and went over to her to fix her hair. The scent his skin carried brought back suppressed memories and with them, dangerous emotions. A glint appeared in her eyes as she watched him. What she wouldn't give for his hand to wander down to her chin, lift it, and draw her close. If only he desired to consume her with the fire his touch carried with it, instead of simply teasing her with it.

"Like it?" She blinked. "The hair? Oh, yes. I despise it."

She turned her back to him as she went around the opposite side of the couch and then sat in her usual spot which was as far away from his as possible. Their daughter was fast asleep in her playpen. The baby was starting to take on more and more of Adonis' features.

She scoffed at his next words and raised her brow unbelievably at him. "You would have? Just like you will say yes to a place for me and her to live?"

Moments later, he was halfway to the stairs. "Tux. Like James Bond mixed with Will Smith, tux."

She wasn't sure if that was even possible, but if it were, it would be awesome.

-

"You ready?" Thalia asked, appearing at his bedroom doorway dressed in a short black dress.

After the months of recovery, her body had obtained its original state. She finally felt somewhat normal again.

Her gaze lingered on him as she thought about the last time she had seen him so dressed up. It seemed like another lifetime ago. So much had changed, but there was one thing still very much the same. Her gaze dropped, falling away from Adonis. She knew better than to bring up the past, but...

"Adonis, do you-"

The doorbell interrupted her. Thalia remembered herself and cleared her throat.

"Here," she said, stepping forward. "Your collar is wrinkled."

She stood in front of him and reached behind his neck to straighten his collar. It was hard to be in such close proximity with him. Could he sense it? He was the god of love,.afterall. Her lips parted as she tried to think up something to say, but nothing came out.

Her hands retracted from around his neck.

Her brows wrinkled as her lips twitched. She shut her eyes, focusing. "I-I mean your jacket looks-"

The doorbell ringing cut her off again.

"The doorbell," she said, stepping back as she cane to her senses. "They're here. I'll get it."

Thalia tried to conjure up some sort of joke to disable her nerves, but none came to mind. So, she merely went downstairs and cursed herself for being so careless.

Avalanche came up behind her, nudging her leg with his nose as they walked. She glanced down into his knowing eyes.

"Yes, I know," she muttered beneath her breath. "I am repressed and tired. Don't judge."

The dog barked, but she doubted it was in response to her words. When she opened the door,  she smiled, willing away the stray of pink that was sure to be on her cheeks. Liz and Mat were standing there along with another couple who she did not recognize.

"Hello." Thalia glanced between the four.

They all uttered greetings with reflected smiles.

"Um," she said as she looked at the two she did not know. "Adonis will be right down. I'm sorry, but I don't think we've been introduced?"

Liz grinned. "No, of course not. This is Lexie and Darrin."

The blonde nodded along with the man. The woman was gorgeous and she looked very nice. She looked like someone had cut her out of a magazine. Thalia instantly liked her, but not because of her looks. The woman's smile was contagious and her eyes shown in a gentle manner.

The man was handsome and seemingly a good fit for the woman, though he appeared a bit bored.

Thalia nodded in response, but she was still confused.

"We knew you needed dates, so Mat called up his friend and his cousin was available for Adonis," said Liz, still grinning as if she had just given her a million dollars.

Her eyes went straight back to the woman. The woman was perfect and she despised everything about her.

"Is that alright?" Liz asked, looking uncertain as she watched Thalia. "It's just you said it may be awkward because you guys aren't together, right?"

Thalia opened her mouth and shut it. There was nothing she could say. Liz was right.

"Right, no, of course," assured Thalia. "I mean, as long as Adonis is fine by it. Let me go tell Pandora goodbye and grab my purse."

Once she had, she returned outside, ready to leave. She had managed to convince herself that it was not such a terrible idea afterall. If nothing else, the woman would probably have an unfortunate illness and have to leave early.

Adonis was on the couch, half-watching TV while Pandora slept in in a playpin next to the couch. she had tuckered herself out playing with the knobs on the side and now rested peacefully. He heard the door open, but lost in his own thoughts, he didn't think to turn and greet Thalia. He had grown accustomed to her presence in the house, even added a room for her to sleep in, since it was clear things between them weren't changing. She was his roommate and co-parent. But that was better than nothing, right?

When she said she had a favor to ask, he turned to look at her. When his eyes settled on her, a smile crept onto his face and he got up off the couch and walked around to where she stood. It was clear where she had been messing in her hair, most likely out of nervousness. He fixed it for her, and then gave it another look. He had never seen her with short hair before.

"I like it." He said, all but ignoring her statement about having a request.

"That would explain your tips!" He said, returning to his seat, and waiting for her to join him and explain her request.

Her inability to use the word date was amusing, but Adonis understood it. They were in an incredibly awkward spot, suddenly being a part of each other's lives again, and though they had grown to tolerate each other, there had never been any talk of returning to a romantic relationship. He had to resist the urge to make a comment about her tying him up. That had always been fun in the past, after all...

"Sure, I'll be your "tag-along-buddy."" There were air quotes around the words. "Not that I would have said no to being your date..." The words floated casually off his lips as he hopped over the back of the couch, and headed for the stairs. He wasn't as reserved as Thalia, after all. "So what kind of thing is it? How should I dress?" Once he had his answer, he would disappear up the stairs.

She was fidgeting, but not on purpose. It was difficult to remain still as scissors were pulled out. After months of trying to grow her hair out, that was the last thing she wanted to see. She tried to put on a calm expression, but she was never good at downplaying her emotions. The hairdresser started to snip away, leaving behind a much more even cut. When she had finished, her hair fell just a few inches below her chin. It did not look great, but it was doable.

She thanked the woman and then returned home. Well, not home, but she had no other word to call it. Adonis had yet to settle on a place and she had nearly given up trying. Pandora was safer with him anyways.

After the first few weeks, Adonis and Thalia had learned to coexist together peacefully. It was awkward, but nothing like it had been at first.

At the house, she walked in with her fingers combing through her hair. It was a lot more comfortable without the wig, but she worried about what Adonis would think of it. Not that she should, but she did.

"Hey," she said, once she had located him. Thalia could not bring herself to look him in the eye. "I have a favor to ask of you, but please don't feel like you have to do it. Though, it is almost impossible to resist my charm, I've been told."

Thalia flipped her hair theatrically as she grinned. Then, she quickly sobered and bit her bottom lip. "So, there's a thing that a friend is wanting to go to and I think we both could use a break. In short, I need a da-..." She stiffened and rethought what she was about to say. "Tag-a-long buddy and I was wondering if you would go with? But of course if you don't want to, I always can tie you up and kidnap you."

Thalia watched him, looking for any signs of anger or disinterest. There was nothing wrong with him declining the offer, in fact, she suspected he would. She was not entirely sure why her palms were so sweaty or why her heart was racing. No, that was untrue. She knew exactly why she was nervous, but she would not allow the truth to sink in.

Quizzical eyes landed on the Goddess as she stated that she was recovering from sickness. Adonis knew that she was, in fact, a demigod. But he was still perplexed that she was plagued with so many mortal risks, such as drowning, or illness. He couldn't help but wonder what kind of disease could have such a drastic effect on the body of a diety, even if she was indeed half human. But as usual, she seemed unwilling to talk to him, so he let the question wave in the still air around his mind.

More questions still, arose in his eyes when Thalia asked if he wanted to watch "The Bachelor." That didn't sound like her at all! But she quickly explained her reasoning, and that -did- sound like her! "Who's playing?" He asked, taking a seat with his back against the arm of the couch, and turning to look a the tv, which was still off.

It wouldn't be long before she abandoned her position on the couch, using Avalanche as an excuse to leave his company. His eyes leveled on her naked ring finger as she left the room; The ring that should have been decorated with his promise to commit his life to her... Perhaps attempting to make nice was really impossible for them at this point. With a sigh, He got up and headed back to his room. He already knew he was going to have to fight with sleep in order to command it on that night..

As he descended the stairs in sweats and a simple sleeveless shirt, she was tormented with nostalgia. All those mornings of waking up with him were still vividly etched into her mind. She recalled wanting merely to see him during her time away, but she knew now not even that was sufficient. It was a new kind of hell to have him so close finally, yet further away than before.

"What?" She blinked.

Had he suddenly obtained an uncanny ability to read her thoughts?

When she realized what he meant, she gave a dry chuckle. She turned off the television and placed her glass down on a table beside the couch. Then, she met his gaze and shrugged with nonchalance that she did not feel.

"Besides the obvious?" she asked, raising a brow pointedly. "I got sick. Now I'm recovering. The Bachelor is on, would you like to watch it with me? I find the whole show kind of cheesey, but there's a game coming on shortly and I'm not about to miss the beginning."

She placed herself against the edge of the couch, making room for him in the opposite end if he so chose to join her.

The last thing she wanted to talk about was herself some more and since he would not talk about anything other than the baby, she would much rather pretend to watch a show in silence. But she doubted he would watch anything with her. The whole situation was a mess and an annoying voice in the back of her mind constantly reminded her whose fault it was. She was tired of listening to it and dealing with Adonis being so near while contempt was evident. It was all so suffocating.

She sighed heavily and abandoned her place on the couch.

"I'm going to let Avalanche out for a bit," she mumbled, more so to herself. Then, she led the husky outside and shut the door behind her.
