As they kisses he coould feel the warmth in her cheeks as she began to blush. His heart felt as though it would burst from his chest. Her touch brought goosepumps to his skin sending a shiver across his entire body. He reluctantly pulled back to look into her eyes as she broke the kiss. Her voice came soft and gentel, like a melody to his ears as she asked if he would travel again. Softly he shook his head as he looked down at her.

"I travled because I was looking for something. Ive found that with you. From now own I am at your side untill you dismiss me. I go where you go."

He shook his head a little. He didnt get cold very easily, his body always seemed to radiate a soft warmth. Which was odd compared to others but completley comfortable to him. He noticed the wood already stacked nicely in the fireplace and wih a flick of his hand a flame licked calmly over their surface. He looked to Hera and smiled. He didnt want her leaving his side for even the few moments it would take to build the fire. He squeezed her hand and place his lips to her very softly.

"We have many things ahead of us. We will face them together. For now let your mind be free of the burden of worry. Tonight is calm and we spend it with one another."

He kissed her more firmly now scooting closer putting his arm around her.

A smile eliminated the remnants of the memories as his touch soothed her.

"Yes, it will be fine," she murmured.

Out of the two windows within the room, the sky had become increasingly darker. The sunlight would soon be completely gone. It didn't seem possible that the day had already ran its course. She sat on the bed next to him and placed her head against his shoulder. Without speaking, her hand finds his once again and she holds onto it as she thinks over the past events and possible paths she could take in the future.

There were so many decisions needing to be made and she wasn't sure which ones were the right ones.

"Are you cold? I could start a fire," said Adelaide, glancing over at the fireplace parallel from the bed. Fortunately, the servants had left a stack of wood there.

He made it down the hall with her help. Into the room and he sat on the edge of the bed not ready to slide under the covers just yet. He looked at her and notice the way the room seemed to bring a dull hapiness to her eyes. Like it reminded her of something that used to make her happy that she didnt want to think about. He took her hand in his and kissed just above the knuckles.

"Will it be ok for us?"

He asked innocently, he wanted to spend the night with her. The calm and peice may only last till morning and he wanted to take advantage of every second.

She nodded, relieved that the girl had done as nice of a job as it looked.

"I can take you to my guest room. No one is allowed to use it except me when I come to visit," she offered.

When he had accepted, she helped him as much as he needed into the other room down the hall. It was a short walk, but she knew any type of exercise would put more strain on him. The room was the largest of guest rooms. It had a large four-poster bed with a canopy draped over it and two dressers, a sitting place as well as a bathing area. Although it was somewhat smaller, this room reminded her of the one at home and brought back memories she wanted to forget for the moment.

Hera pulled down the covers of the bed for him and then helped him climb into it if he wished.

"Will this be okay for you?" she asked.

He managed to keep from grimacing as the girl changed his bandages. She worked swiftly and for one so young did a suprisingly good job. He placed a hand on his shoulder and began to stretch it slowly steeling his face against the pain. He looked to the princess and smiled shaking his head.

"No, the girl did a fine job, pains already starting to subside. Shouldnt be more than a week before Im healed enough to use it again."

He looked around the room, its was a nice place for the wounded to be mended. But the small cott left much to be desired, it had been so long since he had a bed to sleep on.

"I wonder if it would be out of place to ask for a room. It be nice to lay in a propper bed and have some privacy."

Hera quickly fetched a small plate of food from the dinner table as Aedin and his family ate. She spoke a few words to his wife and children before returning to Kevin. Holding the plate and a fork, she entered with a soft smile. Sitting down on the floor beside his cot, she began eating silently. When she was finished, she sat the plate down on the table.

A servant came in then to change his bandages. The young girl hardly looked old enough to be working, but she a good job. Hera thanked her for her job. Once she had left, she went over to him and looked over the girl's work.

"She did very well," she said. "Is it too tight?"

He frowned as she broke the embrace. She asked again if he was hungry, he shook his head silently as his eyes slowly peered over her body. He wasent hungry after the days excitement. But he wouldn't keep her from eating. His body looked mostly fine, though he made an effort not to move his shoulder.

"Go join then for dinner. The days been eventful and I'm not very hungry. To be honest I'm a little to tired to entertain all the questions they will have for me."

He watched her until she was out if site. He would wait for her to return.

He set his hand over hers and squeezed it softly. He listened to her speak and allowed a small smile to creep onto his lips. Her cousin wouldnt be back untill tomorow. As she tilted her head back his gaze met hers. He looked deeply into her eyes and leaned his head forward, his lips met hers firmly. Warmth radiated from his body to comfort her as he kissed her lips. Pulling away only slightly to give her a smile and speak softly.

"Then we have a safe place to stay for at least one night. I suggest we allow ourselves some time to relax, as we may not get the chance again in the near future."

She welcomed the embrace, but she remained mindful of the injuries he had sustained. Her head lightly laid against his chest, opposite to the shoulder that had been damaged. Closing her eyes, she soaked in his words and nodded. They were comforting, though she couldn't bring herself to completely believe them.

"Thank you," she murmured sincerely. "I believe we all should live lives of servitude for others, but not for evil hearted people."

She sighed. "I think I need to tap into my gift later. I need yo ensure that my cousins home will remain safe during our stay."

Taking her hand, she laid it on his chest, keeping her eyes closed in order to block everything else out except his warm touch.

"My cousin is absent at the moment. Aedin said that he would return from his hunting trip by tomorrow morning. Then, we will need decide our next move."

She tilted her head back and looked him in the eye to measure his expression.

He watched as her thoughts enveloped her. Without so much as a spoken word he could guess what was running through her mind. If she had simply settled and agreed to the marriage it would have saved the peple she cared for alot of pain. Her eyes met his again and he could see the pain and doupt littered in them. She asked is he was hungry, an attempt to take her mind away from the things that worried her. He stood slowly and took the glass of herbs from her, swallowing it back with little notice of the bitter taste.

Before she could walk away he pulled her into a hug. He wasent concerned with the pain he may feel from it, she needed to be comforted. He held her in a tight embrace softly stroking his hand down her back.

"To comprmise is to live ones life with regret. Regret is a poison that will eat at ones soul till only the darkness is left to swallow them. My actions are of my own free will, you cannot stop them any more than you can stop the wind blowing. Things will be how they are ment to, your people would want hapiness for you not a life of servatude."

His words were meant to be kind and gentle. He hoped they would reassure her.

He reached over and took the cup swallowing a few mouth fulls of water before sitting up again. He placed the cup down and scooted his legs off the edge of the cott so he was faceing her. HE took her hands in his and looked into her eyes seeing the tears she was keeping in check. He gave her a kind sympathetic smile, knowing that your father wanting you dead must be something very difficult to deal with.

"I could have? I wasent aware, to think I was so foolish."

His words held a tone of playfullness. He was fully aware of the risk he took, he saw the risk as worth taking, though he was sure she would disagree with him. He squeezed her hands again peeling his eyes away from her and speaking as he looked off to the side.

"I knew the risk, Id take it 100 times over to keep you from harm."

She placed her hand on his chest as he became scared. Her palm rested below his ribcage, far enough away from his shoulder not to arouse pain. It hurt her to see him that way and she wanted nothing more than comfort him.

"My uncle's home," she murmured. "Rest, we are safe; for now at least."

She allowed her fingers to trace the indentations of his knuckles as she thoughtfully pursed her lips.

"Would you like some water?" she asked. Without waiting for him to answer, she went over and poured him a cup then sat it down on the table beside him so that he may drink as he wished. "My father has placed an impressive bounty on our heads. I suppose he figured that if he couldn't have me, no one could."

The thought aroused tears in her eyes, but the relief of Kevin being alright, kept them from falling.

"You could have been killed, you know?" she said, holding his gaze as she sat back down at his side.

His eyes snapped fully open as he became sompletely alert. He sat up with a start and gasped looking around with frantic eyes, as though he were prepaired for another arrow to slam into hhis chest. This his eyes met her gaze, they settled to a calm slowly and he layed back slowing his breathing.
"Where are we..."
He squeezed her hand as he closed his eyes again.

Hera met his gaze unwavering and gave him a smile that failed to reach her eyes. She continued to gaze upon him even as the pain distorted his features. When he passed out, she leaned forward, catching his head against her chest and holding him up with his shoulders.

"Thank you," Hera replied to the healer.

The healer nodded and left. Slowly, she laid him back on the cot and ran her fingers through his hair as he lay alseep.

As he woke, there were voices in the room.

"Aye, but-..."

"My father wouldn't."

"Lass, I can't fathom why, but he did," Aedin said, gently.

Hera gave a subtle sigh then fell quiet when she noticed Kevin stirring. She was still seated in front of the cot on the floor, holding his hand. Ever since he passed out, she hadn't budge from the spot.

"Hey, sleepy head. You really need to be more careful and avoid running into arrows," she chastised playfully.

Aedin grunted. "We will talk later. Ye look after him."

With that, he left the room to give them some solitude. She squeezed his hand gently, willing him to open his eyes completely.

Each movement shot a peircing pain up and down his body. He wasent sure but the bolt mush have broken something in his shoulder. Thats the only reason the pain would be enough to overwhelm him. As the healer prepaired to remove the arrow he squeezed the princesses hand and looked into her eyes. Then his face distorted with agony as he clenched his teeth together and pinned his eyes closed. The healer dug into the wound with a set of crude metal prongs. He must have been well versed in his practices, the bolt was removed on the first try. Sweat poured from Kevin's forhead and his breathing became raggid for a few moments. Then withough expectaion the healer jerked his arm on one direction and a loud pop could be heard.

Then the healer spoke. "The bolt hit him with enough force to dislocate his shoulder. Though luckily none of the bones broke. Ive set it back in place, im going to stitch the wound shut then bandage him, he should refrain from moving the shoulder as much as possible untill it heals."

Kevin had blacked out when his shoulder was set. The sudden force was to much after the bolt being removed. He woke almost an hour later, after he had already been stitched up and bandaged. His vision swimming into view from pitch black, things around him looking fuzzy for a few moments untill it cleared.

The thought to leave him had never even crossed her mind. A soft smile penetrated the worry lines on her face.

"Never," she vowed.

Hera desperately wanted to help him, but there was no way she could touch him without hurting him. Instead, she directed the horse around the rough terrain, avoiding any obvious holes or large shrubbery. Within minutes, the exited the treeline and approached a large castle in the center of a village, sitting between two towering mountains.

The highlander leading them yelled for a healer which anyone nearby complied immediately,  running to find one.

"Aedin," she murmured, looking at the brute in front of him.

He met her eyes and shook his head. "We are almost there."

After a few more minutes they reached the castle and Kevin was carefully removed from the horse with the help of a few men. They carried him in as she followed behind. When the entered, they helped him into a room and onto a cot. The healer arrive shortly after and stationed a man at his front to help get the weapon out. Hera ground her teeth and took her hand in his, dreading what was it come.

He nodded just barley, even that motion shooting pain through his entire body. The jolting of the horse did nothing to air him but he managed to keep himself steady and mask as much pain as possible. Though he spoke through gritted teeth.
"Ill be fine, once we know we are safe someone will have to dig out the crossbow bolt."
It had only been moments since he had been shot, but already sweat started pouring from his forhead as he grimmaced against the pain. The further they road the harder he found it to keep himself aloft on the horse. He began to slump against its neck, not from loss of blood. The pain was overriding his other senses. A simple medal bolt should have this much effect. Still he tried his best to stay conciouse.

Hera winced as she watched the weapon pierce his flesh. Her initial reaction was to help him, but given the circumstances, she couldn't. Out of the chaos around them, several burly men came out of the treeline, blocking their paths. By the look of them, they were highlander brutes. Before Kevin could crisp them black, she pulled the horse to another stop and jumped down then ran to the largest one there holding a large blade.

He saw her and raised his weapon momentarily, but lowered it when she gave him a hug. His face was priceless.

"Ye crazy lass? I could ef' decapitated ye," he bellowed, returning the hug with one arm.

"I'm too pretty for such," she countered then pointed behind them. "We are being attacked."

He nodded. "Aye, I see that." He pointed to his men then to the area behind her. They complied and ran forth. The man looked at Kevin then back to Hera. "Come lass, your friend needs attention."

Hera climbed back up onto the horse and aimed it South, following the man. Along the way, she whispered, "Are you okay?"

The question was dumb, she knew, but not asking seemed worse than asking.

He ran through the cave after disbaching the men, hopefull this would give him enough time to put ground between them and any others. His body still aglow with flame he moved like a spectar, he was only moments behind her when she pulled the horse to a full stop, he looked upon her wondering what she could be doing. Then his eyes caught movement from the trees infront of her. In a panic he shot himself forward letting the flames die so he could land on the horse infront of her without causing any harm. Just as he managed to put himself between her and the trees that he had seen movement from a steel crossbow bolt embedded itself in his shoulder. He retched back in pain and kicked the sides of the horse.
"Hold on!"
Their steed lerched forward at a frightfull pace. He waved his good arm in the air sending a cascade of fire into the trees as they passed under them. He then gripped the horses main doing his best to mask the entense pain shooting down from his shoulder into his arm and his torso.
