He had heard the small apology she had given him but he walked simply keeping her apology in mind, his eyes slipped closed even as he fell beneath the waves enjoying the feel of the water washing over his naked body. He shifted his body up from beneath the crystal blue of the water, his eyes slipped open reflecting the orange light that danced over the horizon inside of their golden tint. He sighed lightly, his eyes slipped closed once again simply thinking about before or trying to think about something other than Echo's new form, he was a protector nothing more, but why couldn't he think about anything else. He shook his head lightly and moved forward in the lake, he moved to the middle of the lake and sighed lightly clenching his fists tightly, he had spent to long without his dragon features showing it was time he let them breathe.

He felt the way his back muscles shifted, the way the bones **** and ached at the way his wings shifted around inside of him. His back tore open, the two large wings pushing their way through his soft flesh. He gritted his teeth slightly as the crimson wings finally rose out of the water, they flapped once allowing the small droplets of water and blood to drip from their leathery form and to the water beneath them, each droplet adding a small ripple to the water around him. It felt great to let his wings form for a while to allow the wind to run over them, the cool night air was wonderful against his white skin. He made his way towards the bank of the lake stepping upon the soft sand. His eyes slipped closed as he turned his back on the cave and allowed the wings to recede back into his body and shifting a red crimson cloak over his body wrapping it around his naked form.

He stepped back towards the cave his eyes closed and his body relaxed, he had heard the rumbling of her stomach even by the lake and it was time the two of them ate before they started the official training. He slipped past her, stopping just a little bit past her and turning to smile down at her. His positioning hadn't changed even though she had seemed more withdrawn from him than before, but finally he spoke softly to Echo. "Come dear let us eat before you starve." He extended his hand towards her hoping she would take it so he could guide her towards the back of the cave around the fire so they could eat.

It was quiet in the cave between her question and the answer she received. She kept her gaze averted as he looked at her, not matching his eyes at all, not like she had done earlier. Looking at him was difficult, as all she could see was that look in his eyes. It was no longer there, it didn't exist now, but she could still see it. It frightened her to think that perhaps that look was buried down deep inside of him and that it could resurface if he allowed it. So she looked down, pretending that she wasn't some object being appraised. She had asked and so she would have to be looked at. That was all there was to it.

His answer wasn't what she was expecting. For the first time since waking up she looked at him properly, her eyes meeting his for the smallest second before he stood. Echo bit gently on the inside of her cheek, hoping silently that she hadn't upset him by asking him to give her such an answer. It had been putting him on the spot, and that was wrong of her. She finished her braid, tying it off so that it would stay.

"I'm sorry." She said quietly. "I just... wanted to know. I shouldn't have asked."

Her voice sounded so much different in her head, but she wasn't sure if it was the same to him, hearing it on the outside. A soft sigh poured from her lips as he left, going to take a bath of his own. She felt herself second guessing every action, questioning every movement. She shouldn't have sat by the lake for so long so that he wouldn't have had to wait. She should have been more gracious to him. She was acting a fool because of a nightmare. Looking down, she ran her fingertips over the palm of her hand where it had been cut in her dream. But it felt so very real.

Somewhere between her thoughts a growl from her stomach registered to her mind. Looking down, Echo took a moment to realize that she was hungry. She touched her stomach lightly and then stood from the wall, her back aching slightly from leaning into the stone. Guiding her way toward the mouth of the cave, Echo cast her gaze sparingly toward the lake, being weary of what she might find. Though it was hard for her to deny that her curiosity now stretched to new areas that she hadn't even considered before. It was all she could do to focus on her hunger, probably from growing so much in such a short time. She didn't want to bother JD while he bathed. That would be rude of her. Besides, it nearly made her blush just thinking about speaking to him when he was so... indisposed.

Sighing softly, she brushed a loose strand of hair behind her ear and sat just inside the opening of the cave, every so often shifting her gaze outside of it. She tried her best not to look toward the lake, but at the surroundings instead. Though it was difficult to suppress the curiosity. It was human nature, and she couldn't get it away no matter how hard she tried.

The cave seemed so much darker now than before, the shadows seemed to weave their way around him as he moved to the back where he had been before and lay with his head resting against the rock. He breathed a light breath outward and the flames that once littered the cave rose from the ashes of its bretheren, he stared into the dancing orange flames with a light growl parting from his lips. What did they want with her...why did they try to catch the elders now of all times when he had a new one that wasn't even halfway through her training yet. He moved his hand angrily allowing the flames to fade, the light they once casted over the cave now gone leaving the dragon there in the silence and darkness of the cave his golden eyes merely staring at the wall across from him.

Her footsteps were light but still made the softest of sounds as she moved through the cave, each step were an echo through his ears and soon they stopped across from him. Then the question that he was sure peaked the curiosity of every female mind was posed out to him. How did she look, his eyes shifted from the wall and to her moving slowly up her form, her legs slender and long, appealing to the eyes. He continued to move his eyes upwards over the golden cloth to her neck where he watched a bead of water slither down her skin to the inside of the cloth, he gulped down slightly before meeting her eyes then quickly turning his head back to the side. His lip sealed tight and his eyes closed shaking his head back and forth.

"To be fair technically I am an animal, judging a mortal on beauty would be different to me than you. In mortal culture I guess you would be described as beautiful, stunning...or whatever they say in the mortal tongue"

He rose at that point from the position he was in and made his way towards the opening of the cave and sighed rather lightly. They had an hour before sunrise, just enough time for him to take a bath, he stopped at the opening of the cave his eyes slipping closed. "I do apologize I forgot to bring clothes for one as your stature so the cloak with have to do for now. I think I will go take a bath myself now." He left at that note making his way towards the lake that rested by the cave. He stripped down and slipped into the water disappearing under the small waves.

There was no way that Echo could know of the dangers that came along with this job, not yet. She had no clue that at this precise moment JD was face to face with a foe that wished to take her. She could not have known what awaited her should she make a mistake and fall into the hands of such demons. She was still so enraptured by the change to her body and it filled her mind and kept her entirely distracted. Everything felt new, and she wondered how well she would cope with this change. If she would be clumsy and uncoordinated. If it would feel like stepping into a newer, better version of herself. She wondered if she would be allowed time to become familiar with the new territory afforded to her by the dragon blood in her system.

Her fingers shifted beneath the soft golden fabric that hugged her body, though it did so very poorly. Echo hadn't bothered to put the cloak on properly, her mind blurred by all that was happening. She touched the space beneath her navel, feeling the tight skin drawn across her muscles that were near nonexistent. She touched her hip where the bone protruded in a sharp point. Her fingers traveled up her stomach and she began to count her ribs, realizing as if it were some grand revelation that they were all still in place.

Echo bit softly on her bottom lip as her touch grazed unfamiliar territory, tracing the curve that had formed from supple flesh. She'd never tried to imagine what it would be like once she'd gone completely through puberty, or what it would feel like to have a full chest. The skin was soft and the touch, even though it was her own, gave her chills. Her attention had shifted from so many questions to the amazement that these new curves had formed on her body, and when she brushed her thumb over her nipple a soft gasp clenched in her throat.

The clearing of his throat from behind her made her jump more than it should have, as if she had been caught doing something she shouldn't have been. Her hands fell into her lap and she laced her fingers together, feeling the cloak on the verge of falling from one of her shoulders. She sat completely still as he spoke to her, and offered a soft "Okay" in return. Even her voice sounded different, more mature, and that surprised her. Once JD had left her to go back to the cave she could breathe again, and she reluctantly pushed herself to her feet and fixed the cloak around her figure, making sure it was on correctly this time.

Echo wandered back toward the cave, peering into the darkness that clung to the walls. The shadows almost seemed tangible, palpable, like living objects moving on the walls. Her hand brushed along the stone as she entered, green eyes finally finding their way to her teacher if only for a short stolen glance. It didn't feel as awkward to move in this body as she had expected it to, so she hadn't forgotten how to walk in the past little while. Once she had come within a few feet of him, Echo turned and put her back to the wall of the cave, looking down at her bare feet.

"How different do I look?" She asked softly, curiosity once again getting the best of her. She knew that she felt different, but she wasn't sure how she looked. What kind of woman was she? Was she pretty? Did she fill out well? Would people recognize her now if they knew her before? Reaching up, she pulled her hair to the side and over one shoulder so that it reached down over her chest. In the silence she began to braid it out of habit. The act alone comforted her.

He had begun to question the way her actions were at this point, her green eyes didn't meet his any longer and instead focused mainly on the cloak the golden fabric that rested between his fingers. It made him question what she had seen what had come in her nightmares. Something must have happened, he shook his thoughts away just as she left the cave running to the lake with the only clothing he had for her he watched her until she began removing the white garments from her small body and then he turned and made his way out into the jungle. The smell of the brimstone had grown closer and he needed to deal with it, his feet carried him over the jungle floor quite easily and rather silently stopping at the waterfall that lay deeper in the jungle. His feet came to a complete stop at the edge of the water staring down into its deep dark depths, all he saw was the reflection of a torn beast staring back.

He sighed lightly his lips curling into a small sigh reaching his hand down deep into the water and removing the image altogether shattering his own reflection. He rose from the kneeled position he had been in and turned just as the trees around him all rustled like leaves in the wind. Then they lept forth four seeming dog like creatures with no eyes and a fiery mane much like a horses, they seemed to snarl at the dragon. It wasn't them he worried about it was the man that stepped out behind the four dogs, the man only of JD's nightmares. He had dark red eyes and carried a sword made completely of dark black flames he roared in the direction of the dragon and stepped forth. His lips parting in a mocking tone towards JD.

"We told you we would come for the Elder in training, when it was time for him or her to be trained again. We told you we would take them the easy way or the hard way, and we see the child that has been picked as the new elder. We have come.....and she will be ours."

He breathed a light sigh and stepped forward his sapphire eyes upon the beasts around him, he counted softly in his head before slipping his eyes shut. He shook his head lightly with a small chuckle and slipped his eyes open revealing the golden dragon like eyes that swirled there. He stepped forward again passed the four dogs and face to face with the beast, he looked up in those dark red eyes and smirked.

"Go home demon and tell your masters they won't have the girl or any of the elders after her. If he sends more of his dumb henchmen after me soon he will be out of them and I'll be eating good for weeks so just go home while you have the option to."

With that he stepped passed the demon and began walking back towards the cave, his eyes had slipped back closed and his body continued forward for now the presence of the beasts had faded and he was glad he didnt have to do any battling to end any of it. His feet had carried him inches from the new Echo. He could see from here that she had become a woman by now and the changes had finished physically her mental compacity wouldn't be known to change until she read from the book but they were days from that. He breathed a light sigh and cleared his throat just loud enough for her to hear, before speaking lightly.

"Echo when the sunrise starts we will begin your physical training so I would get used to the way your older body is...."

After that he stepped back into the cave and sat back against the wall staring into the dancing flames, so now the true tests begin.

The sound of his voice between her harsh breaths as they poured from her nose. She was covering her mouth but it did very little to hide the fact that she was crying. He frightened her, just the sound of his voice in the darkness could do that after the dream she'd had. She couldn't bare to look at him, because she was sure that he knew the answer to his question already. There was no need for her to answer it. Echo felt extremely inadequate at that moment. She felt like a child again and she wanted to be one. Maybe then she wouldn't be in this situation, someone else would be forced to take up the reigns and become the elder. She didn't want to do this, not in that moment.

But it was already far too late for such thoughts.

Echo lifted her head and allowed her green eyes to turn, not to look at him but at the cloak he offered her. At first she was confused, until the reasoning behind the offer was explained. She felt her cheeks heat up at the thought and she looked down at herself. Her body was about to mature. Something that girls spent years experiencing would be happening to her in a matter of minutes. It sounded painful, but everything about this process sounded painful to her. Without a word, she curled her fingers into the cloak, being careful not to touch him. She was still weary of such contact after her dream.

After rising from the ground, Echo clung to the fabric of the cloak, holding it close to her chest as she made her way from the cave and toward the lake. The light from the sliver of moon hanging in the sky reflected from the still surface of the water. It looked like a mirror and Echo hated to disturb it. Sparing a glance back toward the cave, Echo carefully set the cloak on the ground and exhaled gently, trying very hard not to feel vulnerable as she removed her plain white dress for the last time. It had been one of her favorite things to wear, and after this she would no longer be able to. It would no longer fit her.

Echo slipped into the water, pulling her brown hair free from the braid that she kept it in. It flowed down her back, long enough so that the tips touched the water where it hugged her waist. It was cool, but not uncomfortably so. She sank deeper into the depths until the surface line floated around her shoulders, her hands cutting gently through the water, creating ripples on the formerly smooth surface. A sort of heat pooled in her stomach, branching out to her limbs and covering her entire body. She knew it was starting, and part of her mourned the loss of her childhood as it left her so quickly. She closed her eyes and attempted to ignore the changes as they occurred, turning her from child to woman with one fell swoop.

Even after she had cleaned herself and wrapped the cloak around her much more robust frame, Echo stayed at the edge of the lake. She had collected the cloak around her thighs, keeping her feet submerged in the water. Her long brown hair hung loose around her shoulders. Everything felt different and foreign. She didn't feel as though she belonged in her body. There were curves where none existed before, her face was no longer plump with that layer of baby fat, and she was sure she had grown taller. Her green eyes hovered above the lake as thoughts rushed through her mind of how final this all felt, how she'd never be able to go back.

Her fingers slid along the inside of her thigh as she took in the feel of her own skin as if she was exploring the body of a stranger. She no longer felt like crying, and she couldn't be sure if that was a blessing or not.

He simply stared out the opening of the cave, he knew that it was impossible for sleep to grip him once he had awaken. His golden eyes were focused on nothing staring into the darkness of the weather torn cave, trying to wrap his mind around everything he had been tasked with. His eyes slipped closed for merely a second the sound of her heartbeat, steady calm for now danced through his ears making a sigh dance through his troubled lips. He breathed a light sigh and laid his head back against the rock of the cave allowing the exhaustion of the day grip his tired mind and soon blackness had claimed him. Allowing the last of his thoughts to drift into the space they came from and soon both of them had drifted into the sleep of a calm night.

Badump! Badump!

The sound of a heartbeat caused him to shift slightly in his sleep, his lips curling into a slight snarl. The smell that of brimstone and smoke, what was this it smelled so familiar like another of his kind or more of those creatures. His eyes jerked open just as her scream echoed through the rocked cave, it took him a minute to register where he was and why before he shifted to look down at Echo. His eyes were upon her curled up body, she seemed more like a child at that moment, scared of the unknown that came with the job she had ben sent with. He only shook his head lightly before speaking softly, his words slipping loud enough for the cave to echo them off the walls that surrounded them.

"The nightmares started didn't they...."

He didn't wait for answer because he already knew how the symptoms worked, it was the nightmares first and then....his eyes widened slightly when he thought about it, he shifted from the ground and began rummaging through the stuff he had brought for training huffing slightly after he tore through all the items. He turned around holding a golden cloak out towards her that seemed a little oversized. He turned his head to the side with a light almost embarrassed sigh and spoke barely hearable to her.

"If your answer to my first question was yes, I would take this and go out to the lake and wash up and change into it because your body is going to develop really fast in the next few minutes."

Sleep found her easily, wrapping her in a darkness unlike anything she had ever experienced in her life. It was deep and dreamless for the most part. Her body managed to relax for the first time since meeting JD. It was the first time things actually seemed to be going well. That was, until the dreams began. It seemed neutral at first, but then they became more and more realistic and horrifying. The things that Echo had experienced earlier in the day began to return to her, taking hold of her mind. Terrible things came to her, images of war, images of violence, demons, dragons... and she was right in the middle of it all.

Echo was standing in the midst of the things she'd witnessed with no viable way of escape. Things looked at her, as if looking through her. Her heart clenched in her chest and she turned, tripping over her own feet in her haste. She hit the ground and cut her hand open, hissing at the pain that she felt. Blood stained her pale skin from the gash and she pressed it into her side, staining her perfectly white dress just the same. She got to her feet and began to rush away, trying her best to find some way to get out. With ever turn she seemed to only get more lost in the turmoil. Another turn crashed her into someone and she hit the ground on her backside with a grunt of pain.

Echo looked up and her green eyes collided with a familiar gaze that held such unfamiliar intent. A scream stuck in her throat when she looked at those eyes and she froze on the ground, unable to move. The man above her came at her...

A strangled cry broke from Echo's lips as her eyes sprang open. She could feel sweat beading on her hairline and at the nape of her neck. Tears had formed in her eyes. Her heart was fluttering in her chest, threatening to give out all together. The young woman slowly sat up, pressing her hand to her forehead. Her headache was only worse now, sleep doing nothing to make it better. She couldn't even be sure how long she'd been asleep. It still looked very dark. Bringing her hand down, Echo looked at her palm, seeing no remnants of the gash from her dream. That meant it was only just that, a dream. Still yet it caused her to shudder and she wrapped her arms around herself, dipping her head into the crook that they made.

Despite wanting to be strong, Echo felt her resolve from earlier give way as a series of soft broken sobs spilled from her lips. She pressed her hand over her mouth in the hopes of suppressing them. JD could have been asleep, but even so she didn't want him to know that she was already bending so greatly. She didn't want him to believe that she could be broken so easily. This was what she was meant for, and so she would have to endure it and all of the trials that came along with it.

He watched her as she walked over and curled herself beneath the warm bedding he had laid out for her, each lock of her hair plastered across her face made her look more and more like a child each second. What he has been doing for years, could it honestly be right? He came every year on the eve of every elders death to take another one away to train them in these rights. These thoughts danced around inside his head, making him question every act and every rights that he had to the protection of these people. His thoughts though were interrupted when she spoke again his sapphire eyes resting upon her form as those words slipped forth offering him thanks and support to say that she trusted him. She was different, only one of the others had ever said outright that they trusted him with their life and she had died before she had reached her prime. He smiled lightly down at the woman watching as she turned to her side with a small goodnight leaving him there with his own thoughts.

What was left for him to do at that point? He could just sit here and run through the events of the days time over and over in his head or run over the plans on what to teach her like he did the other elders...no for once he laid his head back resting upon the hard rock behind him his black hair strewn about behind him and closed his eyes and allowed the sweet call of sleep to claim him. Once his eyes had closed, only then did nightmares claim his normal dreamless sleep, claws clashing against scale sword against skin and finally the form of his own body laying in crumbled heap on the ground staring up at the man he had called father. The man only laughed down at him before his eyes fell shut just like they had moments ago, it did not take long before he shot up, a cold sweat dancing down his body covering the pale skin in a glistening like color. He rose from his seat next to Echo and stumbled to the opening of the cave to stare out at the starless night watching as the wind danced over him.

He stepped out of the cave only for a moment making his way to the lake on the outskirts of the cave. His feet rested next to the water as he stood there seemingly gazing off into the distance over the lake. He had felt them, he knew they were close when the nightmares had begun and there they were flying in the distance, his brothers and sisters family of long since forgotten. He breathed a light sigh at their presence knowing that they would be upon the two of them in no time, for now though he would Echo sleep. He turned around and made his way back to the cave and through the opening before turning around and running his hand over the opening and watching as it sealed itself....for now they would rest.

Echo didn't know anything about any of this, she'd never even been told that things like this were possible. It was like she had been living in the dark all her life and suddenly the sun had come out to greet her and burn her eyes and her skin. She was getting a headache already, but she wasn't sure if it was from the blood or everything she'd been through and seen in a single day. All she knew was that it made her want to start crying to some extent, which was extremely unacceptable. She was meant to be handling things. Crying wasn't a way of handling things, it was a form of defeat. So she kept it in.

His words didn't register to her for a moment, since she was so zoned out in her own little world. Her bottom lip found its place between her teeth as she looked him over and then looked at the spot he had laid out for her. It looked comfortable, and she was exhausted, mostly in the mental form of the word. She wanted to lye down and not have to worry about living through any changes in her waking self. But part of her feared the dreams she would have, seeing what she'd seen. She wandered silently to the bedding and got herself comfortable in them, wrapped up and warm, covered in the softest fabric she was sure she'd ever felt.

"JD." She said softly, hoping to get his attention. When she had it, she was still silent for a moment, before finally speaking up. "I trust that you will keep me from harm's way throughout this journey. I just thought that you might like to know that I do in fact trust you, no matter what I was shown of your past."

Echo wasn't sure why she felt inclined to say so, but it came out, and she gave him a soft smile. It was hard for her to smile at the current moment, feeling the way she did, but he couldn't really expect her to be perfectly okay in this situation. Even she didn't expect that of herself. "Goodnight." She muttered, the word barely there as she turned onto her side so that her back was facing him, her face half hidden into her pillow. As she drifted off, it was all she could do not to allow her body to shake with the silent tears that decided to roll from her eyes without her permission. They helped to put her to sleep.

JD honestly didnt have an answer for Echo on the fact if it hurt or not, but he knew that during it she would feel like she wanted to die. He stepped closer to her taking a knee so he was eye to eye with her, he allowed a small smile to cross his lips. What would he tell her, much like the ones before her he would tell her the same. His hand rose taking her hand into his own and placing his other hand on top of hers allowing his sapphire eyes to meet her own emerald green eyes. He spoke then only like a father to his daughter words of comfort to allow her to make it through a bad time in her life, he would be there.

"To be honest Echo dear I dont know if it hurts physically or not, but mentally you will begin to feel smarter, more wise and your mind will expand. It may hurt, it may not but thats all up to the eye of the beholder."

With that he stood, his body shifting around to walk towards the other end of the cave, he perched down sitting and folding his legs in a cross-legged position. He slipped his eyes closed and seemed to hum lightly for a moment before the flames died once again covering the cave in a silent darkness, seconds ticked by until his eyes crawled back open he moved his hand and patted the spot next to him. A blanket and pillow appeared out of seemingly thin air next to him made out of the elegant of silks, he moved his hand and once again spoke.

"Come lay down young one let the effects play out while you sleep"

Of course the blood she had consumed would have effects on her body. How could it not? Dragon blood had to be more powerful than her own human blood, and it must have effects on her that she couldn't even dream of. But JD told her what could happen, listing out the things that would happen without a doubt, but that wouldn't be all. Her green eyes moved from him to the fire as it danced to his will, something she would be able to do on her own in good time. It all seemed like very good things to have happen to a person. To her. She wondered how the others before her took this news, and if it scared them as well as enthralled them. Frightening and exhilarating all at once.

"Will it hurt?" That was the only question she could think to ask, her arms wrapping around herself and her hands rubbing along her upper arms. She really would like to know how it was going to feel, and if she would go through anything terrible because of it. Whatever it dealt to her, she would handle, she knew that much. But she wanted to be prepared for it. Knowledge was power to her, the thing that was needed most for a person to get through any trial. The more she knew, the better.

For a moment things fell silent, the conversation between them had faded and he was sure that she would turn tail and run. Nobody had ever gripped that far into his memories, no elder before her, not one of his brothers or sisters, this girl was different special beyond belief. She didn’t run instead she looked on questioning still him before all at once she agreed to continue with the training that was taking place, she still wanted to be an elder, though to be honest he didn’t have the heart to tell her that at this point there was no way she could turn back now. Once that had all settled he was sure the blood that had now flowed with her own had begun to take its effects and when she raised her small hands to the sky to say they felt different, he only chuckled slightly. His hands rose to meet hers pressing their palms together, it would only take a moment before the feeling would quit all together, his lips parting to speak once again.

“It is an effect of the blood that now curls with your own, the blood of a dragon is a prideful element and will try to completely rewrite your blood so that it is the main element. Unfortunately for it I did not give you enough for it to be able to completely take you over….though be warned in the days to come slowly you will start feeling effects upon your body, the first effect will be your body will push to a matured state, that way it can handle the growth that comes from the last two effects. Then, you will be able to understand things you had not before do to the expansion of your will and mind, through this process your body will become stronger able to carry what normal humans can’t and last but not least you will gain an unnatural affinity for fire, and when I say natural affinity I mean you will be able to do this.”

He shifted his gaze to the cindering firewood from last night, golden hues staring at each of the small brown pieces before they lit ablaze in a brilliant array of orange and golden flames. It danced up for a moment reaching to the ceiling before falling back down, his eyes remained on the dancing flames before his hand clenched shut and the flames shot over the entirety of the cave though it didn’t burn anything the fires simply licked along the rocks before fading. He allowed a small smirk to cross his lips before turning back to Echo, he had to admit much like the other elders before her she is rather young starting out but she has been the first to achieve things the others have not, maybe that’s why his kin searched so religiously for her. He would not let them have her or the people of the village it was his job to protect it from the threats that they themselves can not handle and that’s what he would do.

It was not comforting in the slightest to see the things that she had, to know that the man she was standing with alone in this cave had been so ruthless before, or could be again. In all of her life, Echo had not witnessed such death and destruction, so of course it frightened and unsettled her. It battled with her inherent feeling of safety around JD and told her to be afraid of him, to be cautious of him. While half of her begged her legs to run as far as they could take her, the other half coaxed her into staying and becoming closer to him, to know him more. He was her protector, and she was confident that he would not harm her. She was hopeful that he would not harm her.

"I see." She said simply, when he explained that he could become that way again if it was needed, her only words for him. Green collided with yellow as she caught his gaze, less confident this time. What she had seen had really taken away from her curiosity of him, as well as added to it. But she didn't want to see any more of that.

"I suppose I can never truly be ready for something I know nothing about. I will just have to take it as it comes." Finally getting her wits about her, she stood up and smoothed her hands over her dress, fixing it as much as could be. It would never again be the simply beautiful garment it had been the day before. "I believe that I can get through what you give to me. If I was chosen, there must be some merit to my strength."

In all honesty, Echo had no idea what she was saying. Truth was truth, but lies were words, and that's what was coming from her lips. Words. Her tongue traced the plump line of her bottom lip, and she stepped closer to him again. Her green eyes dropped, though, to her hands as she held them up in front of her. There was a slight tingling that had begun in her fingertips and spread to her hands and up her arms. "Something's happening." She whispered, looking back up at him as if for an explanation. He had to know what was going on, considering he was running this entire show.

A small sigh bypassed JD's lips as she pulled back and seeming to praise him, he shook his head lightly thinking back to those memories. Even to this day those memories seem to be second nature to him, his claws ripping through the flesh of the demons that he hated so, the warriors he had once called comrades in arms and even the woman who had once clutched his heart in the palm of her hands. Even to this day they still shattered through the dark of his nightmares, ripped through the walls of his mind, and haunted his own will keeping him from getting much closer to the elders than simple guardians, but his most recent question was how the hell did she read into his memories into his thoughts.

"Trust me dear Echo you learn quickly thats me as much as I hate to admit it but I have to adapt to protect those that I have promised, meaning if I have to become that way again I would to protect you or the village."

Her question echoed deep in his mind, was she honestly prepared for the events that would come next in her life, would she be able to carry the burden of everything she would see, she would be tested down to pure insanity would she be able to survive it. More than a few seconds passed before JD's lips parted and his serpent like tongue ran over the length of his tongue before he himself finally spoke up, his voice seeming more distant this time than normal.

"Every Elder asked the same question you have dear, were they ready for the actions that would follow them were they ready to see it all? Hon you have made it this far using the few skills you have as a strength and I give you kudios for that, just know that every elder survives and every one moves on to be stronger than normal. You have the skills are you ready for this, no since you know nothing of the trials you face before you"

Echo stepped closer to the door, placing her hand on it. Her emerald eyes gazed upon the memory before her, seeing first JD, as he was before, and as he would never be again. Pursing her lips, she watched the scene, all of the blood making it hard for her not to start shaking. In that moment she wondered if she was too weak for this, if she could handle it all. Still, her eyes did no leave the scene. It was as if she could not look away, stuck watching some demented fairy tale. Then the crowd began to converge, and the man that she hardly recognized did not move. She could only guess what would happen next. She was frozen, unable to move, unable to make herself look away, but just as the memory reached its peak, her wrist was grabbed and she was pulled away from it. Sounds of the memory served as a backdrop to his words, calming to her ears as she closed her eyes. She was thankful to him for pulling her away, and she placed her hands against his chest, trying not to listen to what was going on in the background.

Even as the sounds faded, and she could feel the familiar air of the cave around them, he did not let her go. It was scary, the things she had witnessed, and she trembled only slightly against him. She felt so small, so fragile, and for the first time she questioned her ability to go through with this. He spoke of protecting her, and it seemed that was what he was doing now. Still, after he spoke, she pulled away from him. Her emerald eyes moved to meet his golden ones.

"Thank you." She said softly, pushing her brown hair behind her ear. "I'm glad that you are no longer that way, and that you have changed. And I would not want anyone else to protect me." She still felt a little sick, and she placed her hand against the wall of the cave to steady herself, sighing softly. Her green eyes dropped to the floor, and she closed them. "Do you believe I am capable of this? That I am strong enough?" She wanted to know what he thought, thinking that it might do well to reassure her. She didn't want to feel unsure or frightened. She wanted to be brave and do this for herself and for her people. She just wasn't sure that she could.

The two hands met as a form of contract, the man faded becoming a form of darkness and the doors parted opening slowly, to reveal a blood soaked arena bodies surrounded a warrior, the warriors hair mangled and wild blood seeping from the ends of it and dripping to the ground, streaks of gray through each strand. The warrior was lost to some sort of rage and held a woman in his claws, blood leaked from the entirety of his body and from her neck his breath was heavy, warriors lined the walls of the arena arrows pointed downward at the man and the crowd now falling silent. He squeezed his hand tightly and a snap rang through the arena, the womans body fell limply to the ground. His body shifting around to reveal the crimson glare within his eyes.

"Warriors of the coliseum, this is the great JD our new champion the champion of the pits of hell, he now has the chance to escape. LETS MAKE IT HELL!!!"

The voice faded and the crowd of people smirked and leaped down filling the arena with warriors and demons of all shapes and sizes, JDs eyes closed and a small breath passed between his lips, all was silent for a moment, his eyes slowly opened and now, replaced by the crimson color was a golden tint of his dragon eyes. He stepped forward and swung his hand outward. A hand wrapped around her wrist and pulled her into a strong hug hiding her eyes from the massacre that takes place in the memory, his voice now ringing out to her small and soothing.

"Trust me you dont want to see that part of me, that was my death the first time I died, I was angry and uncontrollable,"

His hand lightly stroked through her hair, keeping her held close until the images faded and they returned to the cave surrounded by the fire, dusk creeping up on the horizon, he sighed lightly still holding onto her like a protector or knight of a princess. The blood still coursed through her veins and he knew soon she would start feeling the effects of whatever the blood gifted her, and from what he could tell she could be the first to achieve more than one power since she was the first to see into his memories.

"My job is to protect you seeing that memory would only seem to hurt you in the slightest I paid my sins for that massacre and I dont need you seeing it to be hurt by my down bringings and the sins of my life."

Echo felt the affects begin to take hold and she caught a final glimpse of JD as darkness ensued upon her. Even though he was by her side, holding her hand, she felt alone. Her eyes moved around the darkness until a crack of light appeared. Looking up into it, she had the urge to step a bit closer, her heart racing. It was exhilarating, but she didn't know why. Then she saw the four eyes peering in and she gasped softly, knowing then this was a birth, his birth. She tilted her head slightly just as the scenery around them changed, casting them out of the darkness to a place that, in some ways, seemed just as dark.

Looking around, she saw the two warriors, one standing over the other. She bit her bottom lip, recognizing JD almost immediately. She watched as he plunged the sword into the other man, blood coming forth from the wound. She felt sick to her stomach, which was made even worse by those blue eyes coming to rest on her. She blinked and it was almost as if it triggered the scenery to change again, but this time it was only a door and another figure before her. His eyes struck a little bit of fear into her, and she took a small step back from him. And then his voice broke into her mind and she shook her head, as if it was an intrusion of the worst kind.

As he explained what the door held behind it, her eyes lay on the ground at her feet, though there seemed to really be no ground, only darkness. Slowly, she looked back up at the figure, seeing the bony hand held out to her. For a moment, she only stood there, looking at that hand. She wondered what she would see behind the reaches of that door, and if it would change her views of the man she had only just met the day before. Swallowing softly, echo reached out, placing her hand in the figure's gently.

"I do."

When the liquid passed her lips, it would take a moment to settle each second seeming to last a moment, each countdown in his head. He stepped forward, and took her hand the goblet kicked over and as if pulled in some random direction the scene around them changed becoming dark for a few seconds, it was a cold darkness a lonely one but yet the both of them were here but it would seem as if she was alone, the sound of cracking pierced the darkness and the faintest of light pierced the fragile darkness like the sunrise on the horizon. JD knew this day better than most and even had remembered it since the very day. His Birth. Staring down into the egg was the four pairs of eyes that would only be recognized as momma and papa for years or so he thought.

Slowly the darkness faded, and instead fire and brimstone replaced all that was once a home two warriors staring down at each other, one had long onyx black hair scars cutting along his upper frame and blood tearing down his body like a waterfall. The emotion of rage, wrath, anger all rolled into one lined those sapphire blue eyes, swinging the sword downward the man cut the tip of the sword into the injured one on the ground and ripped it through, blood shot from the wound and into the air covering the ground in the crimson colored liquid. The warriors blue eyes shifted to around him resting on the area where Echo and he stood.

The memory faded and they stood before a door, though this time Echo was alone, standing in front of the door was a cloaked figure, his crimson red eyes glaring from beneath the hood to stare into the emerald ones of the girl, his lips curling into a smirk fangs peering beneath the cold darkness almost easily showing his true nature to the girl, he stepped forth holding a bony hand outward towards her, his hand had no skin and the aura about him was dark and cold behind the door guarded something JD kept hidden far below the surface of his own mind, the figures smirk remained even as the thoughts passed through Echo's mind.

"Do you wish to seek the knowledge the elders before you have? If so simply take my hand and you shall see the darkness that JD himself hides and then to the real world you'll return with the knowledge you have found, just know what hides behind this door is the memories of JD when he was in a dark place, blood and gore hide behind this door and you will see JD in a state you have never or will never see him in again. Do you still wish to pass?"

Echo rubbed her eyes gently as he began to speak, her hands dropping when he began to talk about training. He was being very forward about it, so it must have been important. Her eyes moved to the goblet, lingering there as he explained what was inside of it. She bit her bottom lip, thinking it over. She would have to drink it at some point then, she didn't really have a choice. The thought of drinking blood didn't really appeal much to her, at all, but she knew there were going to be things like that in her life that she couldn't control. Reaching out, she took the goblet from him, holding it between both of her hands.

"Alright." She said quietly, looking down at the thick, crimson liquid inside. It looked like it would be hard to swallow, but it smelled like it would taste good. She tilted her head a bit and then looked up at him for a moment. She was still thinking it over, though she knew what she was going to do already. She was afraid, she wasn't going to let herself be afraid. Closing her green eyes, she brought the goblet to her lips and tilted it back, feeling the warm liquid slide between her lips. It didn't taste badly and it was surprisingly easy to swallow, so she drank it all before pulling the goblet away and licking some of it from her lips. Her eyes opened, and she looked over at him, setting the goblet down.

"What now?" She asked softly, wondering what affect it would have on her.
