Genevieve sat up in bed, her blonde hair a mess around her face. She liked the idea of "sleeping," though she never slept. She stretched and let out a little yawn as she looked around her room. She blinked a few times fast, her lids fluttering over her red eyes. She rang the bell next to her on the nightstand and a butler entered the room. "Ms. Genevieve, how may I assist you?"

Genevieve turned toward the butler and simply said, "A drink." She watched as he exited the room and sighed. Despite having everything she could ever want, there was still something missing. Max, her butler, and his staff were all Genevieve had left. Her parents had perished in a fire after a radical group of scrubs burnt her old house to the ground. She missed them, more than anything. She still wasn't sure how the scrubs had even gotten past the gate of her home, but she was sure there was a huge hole left in her chest after her parents passing and that "equality" was a foreign idea. "Equality" was in no way possible in the Pureblood district!

Max returned, a thick red liquid in a martini glass with a strawberry stuck to the edge of the glass. "Thank you, Max." Genevieve said, flashing a dazzling smile his direction. The two shared an odd relationship, she was young, only eleven, when her parents were murdered. Max had become her father-figure. He knew how Genevieve felt. He knew the anger that burned in her soul for scrubs. He knew that she would never let another scrub get in her way, and she would ensure that any who did cross her didn't do so again. Max knew more than anyone.

After the two hour combat class, Torlan's muscles ached with fatigue. She really should have been practicing rather than researching, but she just couldn't help herself. She continued on through her day and classes, and soon her school day was done. She was excited that now would be the perfect chance to speak with Celeste over her findings and concerns. In her last class, Tory overheard two pureblood vampires muttering something about a councilwoman having convinced the minister to allow the scrubs a special protection order. The two teenagers seemed very displeased with the outcome and it took all of Tory's restraint to hold her tongue about the matter.

 She walked the cool, dim hallway from the classroom towards her favorite professor's office, thinking about everything that has happened. She was excited once she reached the closed door to the professor's office, she  couldn't wait to share the information. Torlan didn't knock on the door to the office, rather she just opened it, walked in, and shut it back with a lock behind her. She knew not everyone approved or felt the same way about their views on the scrubs, so she wanted to keep the conversation secure. "Celeste..." Tory called out softly. "Do you have time to speak now?" She asked politely as she pulled her computer from her bag and opened it, putting in her encrypted password.

Celeste's answer to the question was informed. Unfortunately, it wasn't helpful. "I see..."  Lenai said, contemplating the possibilities as the two of them walked. There was something resembling fear, or nervousness on her voice. But it was hard to place, as she wasn't quite sure how she felt herself.

For some time, she walked in silence, eyes settled on her feet as she thought about what her old Professor had told her. It was Celeste's voice that snapped her out of her thoughts. It sounded good, but something about it just didn't seem right. "But aren't the District and it's Class Hierarchy the reason for all the deaths in the first place? Maybe no Districts to rule is the answer..."

It was a thought that anyone would call her out of her mind for speaking out loud, especially as a species that held power. But she couldn't help but feel that there was no other way to end the violence. Either that or....

Soon after though, they arrived at Celeste's destination and offered her farewells. "Yes, thank you, Professor! I hope we'll get to see each other again soon! If there's anything I can do to help you out around the Academy, please let me know!" After that, Lenai found herself alone yet again. She decided it was best she went home. Maybe some food would help her out with her other problem....

Alistair sighed heavily, scratching the back of his head; the soft tendrils of silver hair offering little resistance to his frustration.

It was always like this, with his mother.

She ever sought to impress her husband, his father, with things; his father enjoyed the attention, the expressions of affection, and Alistair was sure his father brought back some bauble for his wife, though Alistair himself was not privy to such information.

Maybe that was the frustration.

He had asked his mother, once, and she merely chuckled and said, 'He gave me you', then she tussled his hair and sent him to bed.

So many years ago... He pondered if the answer would still be the same; if his mother was still proud of the man he had become. He sat down on a bench, letting his thoughts take him away; allowing the frustrations of the events to wash over him, through him, and to leave his mind.

What about his father? Was he a son that a father could take pride in? It wasn't as though he had achieved anything great or momentous, nothing of notice. Alistair knew he had strong magic running in his veins, that his own blood was power by itself, but didn't do anything with it. Well, that wasn't entirely the case. He had spent more than a few years with the elementals, talking about the wardings and the design of the council building; defensive-type magicks were more of his speed, but with the peace that currently reigned in their society, he hardly had any need of it.

He exhaled.

Perhaps that was going to change, soon. He scratched his chin in thought before shrugging, leaning back; his arms resting on the back of said bench as he crossed a leg over the other, stretching out said legs; people gave him a few glances but left him alone for the most part.

It wasn't as though he was imposing figure, but he wasn't small either; he carried himself with pride, as any dragon would do. His presence wasn't palpable, but with the mutation of his albinism, he didn't need an imposing presence. People just noticed him. His mouth quirked up in a sneer at the stirrings of old memories of School. Not all attention was good attention.

Given his aptitude, or his want -his need- to protect, he had taken a role as a security guard after his graduation; it gave him an excuse to be near the council building without too many questions being asked and allowed him to study those centuries old building that was so deceptively large.

But, in reality, he was just a glorified errand boy; which was fine, because again, it allowed him to be in places he'd otherwise have been questioned about. On top of being the only silver-hued man in this society, as far as he knew, he was easily recognizable for who he was and who his father was; but sometimes having your fathers name behind you doesn't quite solve all the problems that arise when being found out in places one shouldn't be found in.

Thinking of his father brought back his own hesitation of his feelings towards Celeste, to which he shrugged at; letting out a heavy sigh.

With that, he came to the crux of his frustration; outside of his mothers insistence that her husband, his father, had something nice awaiting him upon his return.

Love wasn't a choice for him; he had long resigned himself to the knowledge he'd be married off to some girl that had half the brains of a bird and just as humorless. He half-expected his father to come back tonight with news that someone had finally accepted the marriage proposal put forth by his father. Normally, someone with the station Alistair's family had, there'd be no need to have to wait so long. In theory, he should have been married off so many years ago.

His silver-hued affliction, while exotic, wasn't exactly what a family was looking for.

Alistair feared that his father disliked him for said affliction; that, in reality, his father only came back because of his mother and, without his mother, Alistair would be alone.

Perhaps Alistair was merely projecting, which he would most likely go with, and just move on past it.

He got up, brushing some of the dust off himself, and continued to walk around the marketplace, searching for the few items his mother needed, whistling softly.

No use dwelling on it.

Instead his mind wandered to the Scrub's district, Alistair catching himself looking in that direction.

He hurried his shopping faster.

Within an hour, he had everything and was home.

His mother greeted him, a pleasant smile on her face, 'Ah, there you are! I was just beginning to worry!'

Alistair nodded, bowing his head, 'Sorry for making you wait, mother. The council was abuzz with the recent Cullings in the Scrub district. Apparently a councilwoman finally swayed the minister to offer them protection.'

She clicked her tongue a few times, disapprovingly, 'That minister is a doormat. He'd let them scrubs walk over him if given half the chance.' She shook her finger. 'Can't say I disagree though; a shame it has come to this, however, to have to protect them.' She basically spat the last word, the gentle look in her eyes never leaving as she busied herself in tidying the house more.

In truth, it did look and smell better than this morning and he was impressed. 'Teach me to not trust a witch, eh, mother?'

She laughed absently, humming to herself; Alistair figured it was some cantrip to help with headaches, or just a simple song from her childhood. He remembers the tune well enough, from growing up around his mother humming it constantly. His own whistling drifted towards said tune, but it was a subconscious thing, much like what his mother was doing now.

She just did it; instinct, as if preparing for something.

He broke the silence, 'I'm going to go out again; there's a few things I need to do before I can join you and father tonight.' He bowed at the waist towards his mother. 'Do not wait for me if I'm not back for dinner.'

He left before his mother could really say anything.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After a few blocks away, he murmured under his breath, letting his magic flow out and surround him. A little misdirection magic that few would notice and if they did, would just assume it was a childish prank.
Either way, he'd be ignored.
It was hard to blend in when all you did was stand out; if not his mutated albinism, then the smell of brimstone and smoke; if not those, his eyes and everything else that screamed Dragon. Alistair inherited a lot of his fathers genetics, though his mother was clearly there; in his face, in his hands, to name a few. He passed for a rather normal person right up to the eyes, or when he smiled.
His nostrils flared with different and new scents, as well as old, as he neared the Scrub district.
While it might seem harsh or shrewd, Celeste was the first suspect, though she hadn't smelled dirty; though she had showered since they had last embraced, the Scrubs had a very distinct smell. He himself was wary of this smell on his person and knew there would be questions if he was found out. He never entered and with the barrier around the district now, he didn't dare. He had merely been staking out a few different spots over the last month, having noted scents that didn't belong.
And he had found a pretty good place to eavesdrop on during his nightly visits about the second week in.
It was this spot in which he found himself tonight, mostly to gauge the mood in general and the general mood about the protection now being provided.
Celeste took her time and listened to Lenai as she explained what she had been doing the past few years and couldn’t help but feel so proud of the young woman - it seemed, she had found her calling in life. As she moves in for another hug, she laughs softly, her voice resonating in the air as she wraps her arms around her, squeezing a little before letting go once more. As they continue to speak, she begins to usher forward, walking aimlessly although the direction they seemed to be taking was the route to the school. And just like that, Lenai’s voice dropped, it went from being excited to timid; a whole shift in her dynamic. Something was wrong but Celeste chose to push that thought into a box that sat at the back of her mind, the lid refusing to close entirely as her many other thoughts bubbled over. And she didn’t want to jump to any conclusion either, so she let the woman continue after nodding her head in response to the single uttered word.
The question that came took the professor by surprise - why would Lenai take interest about talks of dead men? After all, there was nothing they could do now. Of course, there were speculations from the townsfolk about who committed the murders and fingers generally pointed at the pureblood but general curiosity had died down. Celeste answered, being careful not to give too much away.
“Apparently there were bite marks all over their bodies,” she takes a moment, before it dawned on her, but she didn’t let the interruption in her thoughts cause one in her speech, “of course, the families were distraught and they want answers but right now, there’s not a whole lot the City Council don’t know, or are willing to put out. I mean, you yourself have been witness to everything that’s been going on the past few months.”
Their society and the founding leaders were chosen typically because of the strength they possessed, their advantage being that they had graduated from school with flying colours too because they weren’t shackled to lower classes, their opportunities were limitless. This resulted in an uproar; the scrubs weren’t happy and tried to protest, because, being the lower class they were limited to certain job opportunities, and they had the smallest standing cabinet in the City Council. They have a natural dislike to anyone who is not of their own, but this goes for all the districts. As Celeste continued to explain the situation, she began to examine the the woman walking alongside her; she didn’t know what breed Lenai was, but it couldn’t be scrub; her job title made that evident, she also didn’t have a particular scent either, which ruled out at least five other breeds. What was left caught Celeste off guard; elemental, witch, vampire, or a succubi.
Her voice lowers as the terrain becomes a little more crowded; people were going to and from school, others were shopping, some carried big bags with them to take to the shore, where they would trade. It was getting busy.
“These deaths need to stop, or there will be no districts left to rule. But rest assured, we are doing everything we can to get to the bottom of it.”
She takes Lenai’s hands in her own, before smiling brightly, “I’ve got to catch this next class, but I will be at the Academy if you need anything, okay?” Without waiting for permission, she pulls her in for another hug, before sauntering off towards the Academy, leaving her behind, though her brain was overheating now.  She thought of how little she knew about Lenai and it unsettled her. The woman had managed to stay in the shadows and get to where she is. Her visit to the past brought memories back too, of their debates on politics and where they stand. It turns out, they didn’t agree on much. All this thinking and she had made it to her office door, closing it shut behind her, and pulling the blinds closed.
She knew Tory would be here soon, and she was more intrigued than ever.
“He made her think of ruins,
of mysterious places in shadow and darkness,
of storms and torrents of rain.”
She stood back only for a few more minutes, watching the two women interact and catch up before her professor ushered her on towards school. "Ah, yes ma'am" Tory smiled and departed with a small curtsy and nod towards each woman. She knew by the time she got there, it would be her lunch hour, so she continued to take her time. Her mind wondered over the thought of the woman who  was now accompanying the professor back at the cross-way. Who was she? What were they talking about? Many more questions flooded her inquisitive mind, but Tory new she needed to shake them off and focus on getting through the day. Hopefully she and the professor could have a moment later to discuss the rising issues at hand.
When Tory reached the school, she headed straight towards the food court. The smell of the different kinds of food flooded her nose and she winced. Sometimes having heighten senses had their downsides. She approached the line for raw seafood where she ordered a couple pieces of great white shark and salmon wit ha side of squid tentacles, and then made her way over to the blood cooler. This held bottles of blood drained from various species, human being the most expensive to pig being the cheapest. Tory didn't have to worry about her finances, so she grabbed a single bottle of human blood, which had been harvested under full consent. Once she had everything she needed, the young woman walked to the back corner where no one was and sat to enjoy her meal in peace.
While she ate, she took the time to pull her computer out and run over the numbers she had gathered once more to make sure there were no discrepancies to the data, her golden eyes occasionally glancing up and around to make sure no one else noticed what she was doing.
After her lunch, she closed and returned the laptop to her bag and threw her garbage away. She felt recharged and ready to get the rest of her day over with. Her next class was hand-to-hand combat and she knew she had to have focus for that. Having the same strength level as her scrub counter parts, she was placed in one of the lower level classes. Walking into the class, she let out a soft sigh and placed her bag in her cubby before starting her stretching routine.
The man who Lenai could only assume to be Celeste's boyfriend was departing just as she arrived. The half-blood Succubus could only smile when she saw their genuine displays of affection for each other. It gave her a strange mixture of happiness and jealousy. Being what she was, it was unlikely that she could ever maintain a steady relationship. Her kind simply weren't trusted when it came to physical intimacy. When a potential partner found out that she was three quarters Succubus, they would run for the hills! Even if she lied about her genealogy, one slip up would undoubtedly mean the end of the relationship, or worse, her partner's life!  Just the same, she was happy for her former Professor!
Celeste gave the best hugs! It was a strange thing to say about a Professor, but it was the truth! The woman could make you feel like all the problems in the world had faded away, if only for the moment. Lenai returned her embrace happily! "I've been really well!" She answered.
"I got a job as a Research Geneticist at a Lab in the District! It's exhausting, but I'm really happy!" She took a step back as Celeste sent the younger girl, most likely one of her current students ahead. Tory... She committed the name to memory, though she would likely never need it. She smelled of salt water. A Siren, perhaps?
She turned back to her old teacher, and looked upward slightly as she pondered her question. "Well I completed my Master's last year... I haven't seen you since I finished undergrad, so about three years?"
She slumped her shoulders and made a pouty face. "That's way too long!" she whined, giving Celeste another hug. It somehow relieved more stress than coming out here to walk ever would have!
But that thought actually brought a darker one to mind. The last time she had come out here to walk... "Um, Professor?" She asked timidly, taking a step back, eyes now glued to the ground. "Have you heard anything about the two men who died out here recently?" It may have seemed like a random question, but it hit close to home to Lenai for her own reasons.
Celeste listened carefully, being intuitive of her surroundings while she did so, and she can’t help but smile at her lover’s words. Not only was he profoundly proud of her and showered her with affection, but the care they shared for each other was deep-rooted. Enough that in the few months they had been seeing each other, her feelings had grown to be more than just butterflies in her stomach, she was falling for the man, and at a quick rate. She knew he didn’t have the easiest life growing up, but his light-hearted humour always made it seem like he did have a stable environment.
“I know they aren’t my love, I don’t do this for their thanks,” she sighs deeply, nudging her head in the direction of the district, “it isn’t right, I feel it. There’s something going on and I’m going to get to the bott-”
She was cut off by her senses, and the girl that lurked behind the bushes, laughing softly in her direction when she addresses them. Tory was a bright girl, an A-star student who excelled not only in the core subjects but the physically demanding ones too. Celeste remembered the day she found out about her mum dying, and unbeknownst to the girl, she was actually very close to her mother before her passing. They didn’t talk of it much, and she gathered it might have something to do with the girl’s wound still being fresh, it hadn’t been that long.
As her lover bids her farewell, she squeezes his hand for a second before letting him go, “get home safe, my love.”
“You know Tory, you’re not gonna pass your classes by lurking behind the bushes,” she teases the girl for a moment, before letting her continue about her findings, cut off by another individual. The Oceans weren’t whispering today, that’s for sure. As the girl walks close enough, Celeste’s eyebrows lift up in excitement, going over to give Lenai a warm embrace. It lasted for a second before she let go,
“Lenai, sweetheart! How have you been?”
Lenai was also a bright student, though she had a couple years over Tory. The woman had taught both the girls while they were at the school and had formed a close relationship with both during their time. It seemed that politically, there was a clear alignment between Tory and herself, but Lenai had always proved to be a little bit of a trouble in that domain.
“Tory, run up to class, dear, I’ll be right behind you!”
She turns her gaze back to Lenai, smiling softly, “how long has it been huh?”
“He made her think of ruins,
of mysterious places in shadow and darkness,
of storms and torrents of rain.”
Torlan took comfort in knowing that the Celeste was near-by. She, herself, was only 17 years old and had been struggling to find her spot in this world. Celeste took her under her wing and helped mold her into the bright, information-loving being she is now. Celeste had her in a couple of classes over the years and when she found out Torlan's mother had passed, she quickly stepped up to support Tory any way she could. For that, Tory could never thank her enough. She knew Alistair and Celeste had been together for a while, and looked up to their love and support for each other. She closed the gap between them and stopped, glancing first to Celeste, then to Alistair.
"Oh Celeste!" She exclaimed. "You look like you have been up to something..." she smirked and eyed Alistair who seemed to be getting ready to depart. "Alistair." She said respectfully, with a small bow of her head and a slight bend in her knees. "Celeste, I've been compiling the data that I've gathered recently of the..." she paused and glanced around, making sure no one was close, and lowered her voice "scrub situation and the numbers and manor of deaths are alarrr..." She trailed off in her sentence when she caught the sent and sound of another person approaching. She gave Alistair a final smile before he turned to be on his own way before turning her attention on the newcomer.
Golden eyes settled on the woman who approached them. She could tell this woman was older than her, so she stepped back and bowed her head in respect. She hadn't seen this woman before, but stayed relaxed as the woman seemed to know Celeste, whom had grown close like a sister.
Lenai sighed as she finally shut the doors to her lab. Research was definitely the job for her, but analysis was exhausting. It definitely made her cravings build faster, but what could she do? It was the job she loved! The job she went through an extra seven years of school for! There was no way she was giving it up! After locking up, she made her way out the door, and hazel eyes settled on the sky for just a moment. It didn't feel like a "go-straight-home" kind of day! Perhaps a walk was in order...
Lenai knew what a walk meant the last time she took one, but she was reserved for that not to be the case! She went to her car, clad herself in a short black dress, and made her way to the forest. She was really a city kind of girl, but every once in a while she found the lights of the forest more soothing than the lights of the city. It was a different environment that she wasn't accustomed to, and while she knew it was inhabited by many, she rarely encountered anyone.
The sounds of birds singing their songs soothed her as she made her way through the trees, the smell of salt water not too far in the distance. She envied the birds and sea creatures. They didn't have to worry about stupid politics, and classification systems. They just lived their lives, day to day... Lenai was a simple creature, or rather she wanted to be. Do what you need to do to survive, and to be happy. Why should anything else matter?
Her thoughts were interrupted by the sounds of voices much to her annoyance. She quickly located the source of the voices; There were three of them, just standing and talking. She resolved to go the other way, until she realized that she recognized one of their faces! Professor Celeste! She had been one of Lenai's teachers at the University! One of her favorites, in fact! She seemed to be having a bit of a serious conversation, but it wouldn't do any harm to simply say hello as she continued on her way would it?"
She continued on her current path, which would lead her right passed the congregation. She stopped and smiled politely. "Hello Professor!" She bowed her head politely to the other two individuals. She didn't want to hold them up, or spend too much time here, but it was nice to see the Professor again! It must have been three or four years since she had last seen her.
He chuckled wryly, knowing that her fending skills weren't to be questioned, 'Well, you are in somewhat distasteful company. Some may think otherwise.'
Returning the kiss to her own cheek, his fingers brushed the soft strands of hair back behind her ears. His brow creased, a small frown showing itself; he wasn't against what she was doing, and supported her in this, but he also knew she would be seen as a traitor as most Tainted were. Dracierous knew there would be questions into her past, history that would be dug up that she might not want to learn or want others to know.
Still, he was glad she had gotten her way, as she was wont to do.
Perhaps this was how it had been with his own father; had it been his own mother who had sought out the courtship between the two? Alistair knew this wasn't entirely the case, however, as his parents' marriage was more arranged than out of love.
Instead, however, the frown and worry eased itself from his face to be replaced by a smile and excitement, 'I'm glad! It's been a long time coming. Now, I don't have to pay the minister a visit in the dead of night to persuade him otherwise.' His eyes glittered mischievously, winking at her.
His eyes closed, allowing the magic to flow around him; his senses tingling with it. It was soft music to his ears; a cool breeze along his skin; an almost sweet taste upon his tongue. His nostrils flared with the scent of it. They wouldn't thank her, but if she did it for gratification, for some selfish reason, it probably never would have gotten approved, honestly. He felt himself swell with pride at her determination, at the tenacity with which she strove for things. He felt himself drowning deeper in the well of emotion that being around her formed within him; it was a mix of things, conflicting emotions with his own feelings for her and how he was raised.
'They aren't going to thank you, Celeste, and you know the amount of gossip and rumors are going to spread because of this. Your scent is on all of this and the minister might be bullied into giving you what you want, but not everyone else will. Some might talk that you are perpetrating the recent Cullings in order to push your agenda; or worse, you are Tainted. Either way, your life has gotten more complicated and, while you enjoy the privileges of your station and your blood, that doesn't mean others cannot make it difficult for you.'
His hands find her waist, pulling her close to allow his nose to brush up against hers; the silver eyes closing as he took a deep breath in, allowing her to wash over him; to immerse himself within her. 'Of course I have missed you.'
Alistair had a difficult time of showing his emotions towards her; he knew what was there, but it wasn't something that he had grown up around. Love, for him, wasn't a choice; his mutation brought him all sorts of offers from half- and pure-bloods, offers that went through his father, as was custom. His mother, of course, didn't like any of the women that were presented to him: she wanted him to marry one of the witches within her coven, or one of their daughters.
He wanted freedom from it all, but he didn't know what he would do with that freedom if given the choice.
It was times like this, as he withdrew in on himself, that he wanted to be away from her as it wasn't exactly fair to her that she has become some object of his obsession, but he knew better and so did she. It was a fear that he had expressed a fair amount of times, but perhaps it was a fear of a different sort.
He rolled his shoulders in a shrug and kissed her softly, his mouth open to speak to her before he caught the sound of another; Torlan. He looked at her from his peripherals, the dim light giving his face an almost sinister look as he peered at the other half-blood, "Ah, Torlan. A pleasure as always.'
He disengaged from Celeste, offering the other woman a small inclination of his head; a bow, of a sort. He glanced at his partner, giving her a soft smile, 'My father is returning tonight. My mother will no doubt be wondering about my tardiness with her list of items. I understand your need to help those of a lower station, but be careful about how you do it.'
Alistair inclined his head towards Torlan again before walking towards the main road.
The water was her favorite place. It was peaceful, smooth, and everyone knew to leave her be when she was there. The water was her safe-space, the one area she could be to clear her thoughts and focus on herself. She tried to keep all the outside drama away when in the warm, salty liquid. Her tail swished up and down, her body rolling itself through the water as she swam around. Her long brown hair flowed every-which way under the surface. Her arms and hands glittered in the sunlight with hints of sliver and purple. She had decided to start her day later than usual, as everything that was brewing in the city was frustrating her. She needed some time to herself, after all, self-care is the best.
After an hour of swimming, Torlan decided it was time to move on to something more productive. The half-blood Siren x Vampire swam her way to the side of the pool that had the ramp and pulled herself up. Once fully out of the water, her rough skin began to sloth off, She pulled herself further up the pool deck, slipping from her scaly tail, her gills and most of her sharp teeth retreating back in. It was painful, but not as much as entering the water from this form was. Her pale grey skin dripped with water as the young adult reached for her white robe.
After drying off and getting dressed, Torlan grabbed her computer that held important data information on the current events and placed it into her messenger bag.  "I'm heading out father..." Torlan called down to the basement where he, Malcolm, spent most of his days at, working. "Be careful, my darling." Her father's deep voice called back up. He worried about her often since the night he witnessed her mother be captured and killed by the scrubs. Aribell, her mother, had gone for a late swim in the ocean when the horrible incident occurred.
Torlan smiled at his worried words and slipped out the front door. She carried her bag over her left shoulder as she made her way down the near-by path and into The Oceans Whisper forest. She liked how the lights surrounded the walkway, guiding people towards the center cross-way. As she neared the center that would take her towards the main city, she heard faint voices. Her thoughts quickly turned to worry as she hoped they were friendly.  A lot of people thought that her and her father were responsible for a couple of the scrub's deaths. Just recently, two scrub hiker's bodies were found off the Oceans Whisper path with two small pinholes in their necks, claw marks scattered over their bodies, and bled dry. On the contrary, she was actually one of the groups of people who wanted to unite everyone, even after what happened to her mother.
Even so, Torlan continued her way down, turning the final bend that would bring her to the cross-way. "Oh, it's just you two" She said softly seeing the two lovers talking.
Elementals were the most in touch with nature out of all the other breeds, of course, it made sense since each and every one of them controlled an aspect of it; Celeste’s own powers encompassed earth and fire, having earned each element from her parents, though they had died years ago, long before she could read or write. The large manor they left behind was empty for the most part, the only family she had left was her beloved grandfather, and her sister, Catarina, who was still in school. They had found the girl on the outskirts of the woodlands, and decided for the best, to adopt her. She was but a child, wrapped in rags and left for the creatures of their lands to feast on.
His words bring her back from her thoughts, shaking her head as she turns so her gaze meets his, her own lips bearing a grin.
“Ohhhh?” She coos, her infectious laugh filling the air, “you don’t think I can fend for myself, beloved?”
Celeste was hard-headed and strong, and sometimes came across as cold, but the woman tried her best to bring order to their lands. Her lover was right, there was danger lurking in the forests, especially because no matter what time of the day it was, it stayed dark; the suns prying eyes stayed out because it was shaped like an enclave. The only light they had hung around them in a little display, though they dimmed and brightened accordingly. Closing the space between the man and herself, she presses her lips to his cheek before turning around to assess her surroundings once more.
“You remember the project I was telling you about? The one the minister hadn’t authorised?”
She spoke while pulling out a scroll from her pocket, letting it levitate in the air, “I got it authorised.”
It didn’t take a minute before the scroll began to burn and let off an orange and scarlet hue, words beginning to appear on the brown paper as she pressed her hands together, focussing on nothing but the spell. Words of what seemed to be a foreign language surrounded the air around her, and as she hums softly, a bubble appears around the scrub’s district, red in colour, though the colour disappeared as soon as the protective bubble had formed, turning invisible instead.
“That should do the trick,” she sighs softly, before walking over to her silver-haired man, leaving the circle she had drawn in the dirt, the brown paper that had once been levitating in the air, turning to ashes when she makes the move.
“Now,” she lets her arms hand over his shoulders, tilting her head back to look up at him, “have you missed me?”
“He made her think of ruins,
of mysterious places in shadow and darkness,
of storms and torrents of rain.”
Dracierous had spent the better part of his morning at his home, with his mother, Sonea. She merely needed help with a few things around the house, to get things ready for his fathers return.
'It's your own fault, mother. You know what happens when you get your coven together," he chided gently, chuckling; his voice was low, a soft growl in the back of his throat.
The home, despite the best efforts of housekeeping and his mothers own list of things for Dracierous to do, ended up looking like a disaster; blood from the animals was everywhere; the smell of their spells and incantations were just as bad as they clung to the walls and furniture. He himself had spent more than an hour or so trying to get the witches to leave, who were either drunk or hungover from the previous night.
That had been interesting, to say the least, fending off their advances. He figured his mother was trying to find him a suitable partner, but he hardly cared, having found his own interest. His eyes squinted as he peered out one of the windows, checking the sun.
He cursed.
'What is it now, boy? You are worse than your father with that mouth.' His mothers chiding was less gentle, but he knew her heart wasn't in it when he caught the twinkle in her brown eyes; her dark hair was beginning to show grey, but her beauty was timeless; a few laugh lines were more apparent due to the fun from the last few nights.
There was no doubt she was a strong woman, who found humor and pleasure in odd things, and, while she loved her son in her own way -and definitely showed that-, she was no less a mother.
His father was more proper, perhaps the polar opposite of his mother, which was a strange combination of personalities. Needless to say, he didn't find himself home a lot when both of his parents were home. It wasn't as though their personalities clashed, it was just the opposite; but they grew tired of each other as much as anyone, which was why father took off for a few days out of the months.
Dracierous snorted, smoke exhaling from his nostrils, 'I'm leaving, mother.'
Sonea offered futile arguments to the back of her son.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dracierous 'Alistair' Carstairs was a half-blood; his father a dragon while his mother a witch. He had been born with a form of albinism, though it had mutated. His eyes were a dark silver; his hair, which hung about his shoulders, offered a more natural silver color while his skin was a darker shade of silver than his eyes.

Alistair found himself nearing the Oceans Whispers, the walkways allowed him to walk carefree with the lighting, though his feet took him off the beaten path, his nostrils flared with a familiar scent and he grinned; revealing the sharp teeth.

As he walked towards the origin, his mind wandered. He thought of his own immediate family, of his mother and father. He thought of his time at the School, though that line of thought darkened his mood and he pulled himself out of his own head. Besides, he had reached his destination.

'Is this where you were lurking, Celeste? You should know better to be out and about alone, especially with all of what is going on.' One could almost hear the grin that spread across his face as he addressed her.

“Sir, it would be in yo-”

“Celeste, please!”

The minister’s voice shakes the iron-clad room, as he raises his hand at the woman, signaling for her to be quiet. Celeste manages to inhale deeply before muttering under her breath in defiance, not willing to be silenced so easily. She takes a few steps forward until she is met with his desk, her dark eyes settling on his in a strong stare.

“It has been my duty to come to you with these issues if you choose to push them aside every single I time do, well, with all due respect Sir, you will not see me here again.”

Her British accent made each and every word sound like it was dripping with venom, the anger apparent in her dark orbs as she stared at the minister, who was now leaning back in his chair, tapping his index finger on the table before him repeatedly. He sighed and muttered softly, before pulling a folder from his drawer, holding it over the table, in her general direction.

“For centuries, there has been no advancement like the one you talk about Celeste, and it’s dan-”

“It’s dangerous. I know. The scrubs are diminishing, Sir, and if it continues, there will be a larger problem coming your way. Let me place a border control sanction in that district, it should stop the purebloods from entering altogether, and should put a stop to the crimes.”

He sighs and shrugs his shoulders, forfeiting the argument after handing her the folder, having had first-hand accounts with the woman's temper and her ability to stay put during an argument, never accepting a loss. It was this drive that made her perfect for her job. Along with teaching at the university, Celeste worked in the city council, though the latter was a birthright. She came from a long-standing line of elementals, her ancestors having built the City Council from the ground up. Nodding her head respectfully, she curtsies before making her way out of the door, skimming through the folder she was given; it was an outline of the strict guidelines that separated the districts, and how much of the land she was able to cast a spell on.

She makes her way out of the building, the folder rested under her arm as she whistles for the first carriage that crossed her line of vision, pulling her arm out in attempt to stop it.

“Where to, Ma’am?”

“The Oceans Whispers, dear.”

And with that, they began their journey to the forest adorned with lights, the place that was home to Celeste and her family. As they enter the woodland, she hops off of the carriage and onto the rocky terrain, walking aimlessly through the jungle of trees, and lights, until she is at a crossroad between two of the districts. She stands for a while, letting the darkness of the forest swallow her whole, as her body finally relaxes a little. The day had already proven to be stressful for the brunette, despite the fact she wasn’t even halfway through it yet.

~ The Oceans Whispers ~

The forest is brightly lit with floating, icy blue iridescent light. They line the walkways that lead to each district and connect in the middle to lead towards the main city which holds the businesses, public offices, and schools. The light from the sun and moon cannot be seen while in the forest as the trees are densely packed. Even so, the beings which inhabit this land can easily work their way through the foliage if they so pleased to do, rather than taking the lighted pathway. The leaves change colors with the seasons, and some trees lose their leaves, but most keep their leaves all year around. The grass is always green within the forest’s perimeter and a variety of vegetation blossoms. Along with the different types of vegetation, there are many types of animals that reside here and call it home.

~ The School of Acadia ~

The school of Acadia sits in the city center where it is easily accessible to people from every district. The building itself is made up of both modern and aged architecture, making it one of the most beautiful buildings in their sphere, and one of the most visited. There are various classes held, from basic academia to survival classes (inclusive to everyone but the scrubs). Their classes are held in different periods, with no specific time it ranged over, some periods are 3 hours long, some are one. They are also separated into different sets; high, medium, and low. Of course, the sets are inclusive of everyone but the dynamic makes it extremely difficult for scrubs and the tainted to advance into the higher classes, which puts them at a disadvantage (needless to say, however, there are rare examples of a scrub passing with flying classes and going on to graduate with first class honours). By the law, every child is expected to go to school, no matter their financial circumstance.

~ The City Council ~

The city council is built in the heart of the domain and took a century to actually finish. It is the oldest building that exists and was constructed by the elementals, which makes it virtually impossible to break into. The walls are encrypted with magical scripture and snares, which have gotten stronger over the years. The elementals keep the snares alive by letting their magic pulsate through the prism’s walls. Though it does look small from the outside, it is the biggest building to stand; the illusion was written by an elemental named ‘Cardelious’ when talks of war were breaking out. If they were to go to war with the ‘outside world’ they wanted the city council to stay strong and withstand any force, however big. The council is made up of all four classes though the ruling party are the purebloods, with 200 members. The scrubs have a party of 10 councilmen/women.

~ The Districts ~

Each path, as stated above, connect the four different districts. There are the Purebloods, the Half-Bloods, the Tainted, and the Scrubs. They may live separately, but they are forced to work and learn alongside each other. Not everyone is too fond of the co-existing idea, though the majority don’t mind.

•   Purebloods: The pureblood class is made up of people who come from a single supernatural lineage such as Vampire x Vampire, Fae x Fae …etc. They see themselves as the elite class because of their pure bloodlines. They have been granted every opportunity they could imagine to succeed in the world. From money to educational advantage, to abilities that allow them to easily overtake a kingdom. These creatures tend to look perfect in every way and live the longest (averaging about 350 years). But within each species, there are weaknesses.

     The purebloods live the most lavish lifestyle of all. Their houses are extravagant, over the top, and expensive. They tend to have multiple areas for fun including theaters, pools, archery ranges…etc. Their houses are, on average, three levels high and are gated in.

•   Half-bloods: These beings are made from two or more supernatural lineages. Their parents are either Half blood x Pureblood class such as Demon/Fae x Vampire or from two different pureblood parents such as Succubus x Siren. These species are just a step below the Purebloods. Even though they live a long fulfilling life (averaging about 250 years), though they do compete with the purebloods, and have some animosity between them.

     Half-bloods like their nice houses. They are generally well-kept and higher-priced. They don’t live in mansions, but their bi-monthly housing cost is easily what the scrub class makes in a year. Most of these houses come with garages, a pool, and a yard, and are two levels high.

•   Tainted: The Tainted are exactly what they sound like. They have a supernatural parent (either pure or half blood) and a scrub parent. These people are the ones who are trying to bring the races together and unite. They believe everyone should be given an equal chance at things. To the other species, they are a disgrace. The purebloods and half-blood believe they are traitors, while the scrubs think they are just breeding with them to destroy and one day and exterminate their race. This class doesn’t live as long as the purebloods or half-bloods, (averaging 150 years), but they live much longer than the scrubs.

     Generally, the tainted race live in middle-class housing. Some tend to prefer the nicer apartment living lifestyle. On the other hand, some do inherit their half-blood/pureblood families homes after they pass, but most just liquidate it to buy a better house in the Tainted district, as to not mingle too much in the other two higher districts.

•   Scrubs: These people are humans. They have no supernatural abilities and are the lowest class. They must work five times as hard as everyone else to even hope to have the same advances as the other classes. This class can work in the same building and hold the same job title as a pureblood, but still, make half of what the pureblood makes. They feel as though the other classes are trying to weed them out, hence why they really hate the tainted class. (Average are 105 years).

     They generally live in run-down trailers, shacks, and apartments. Occasionally the ones who have worked the hardest and have advanced in their careers do live in middle-class houses.
