The tips of her fingertips were bloodied and raw. With a protruding jawline from gritted teeth, Marie ran her hands along the rocky cave floor, tearing the skin down to the bones. Her ears were infested with the dead. It was as if they sensed the deity within her, the heir to their prison. She let out a haggard breath as her limbs quaked beneath the strain of energy she had begun summoning. In response, the cave illuminated with an eerie, blue glow, emitting from the carvings along the ground. Marie struggled to keep up right as disappointment wedged its way into her stomach, shoving aside the pain of the fetus, if only momentarily. As with every failure, she felt the collapse before it happened. The light vanished with such suddence, the retrieval of darkness sent a shiver of shock down her spine, as her forearms caught her weight as her body crumbled in a heap. Pent up frustration burrowed its way into her throat. A scream threatened to escape her slacked jaw, but all that managed to wiggled its way through walls of jagged teeth, was a raspy cry of exhaustion.

The vision had been so vivid, so exact, and she had never been wrong before.

Except twice.

She had not seen Hades' return, neither had she seen Soraya being with Raijuta. Still, the idea of the vision being specious was impossible. She had seen herself bringing back Raijuta. In this cave and with Hades' blood.

Desperation clouded her judgement and robbed her of any hope that had remained after months of trying. She had sworn to keep his family out of this, but the child within her was stealing her life's energy the more it grew. Her body was inadequate. She was inadequate.

_

She found Calyx fast asleep on the sofa. His expression reminded her of the little boy she had met when Imperfect first arrived. He had changed so much since then, yet she could still hear the faint pitter patter of his feet running down the halls, leaving behind a trail of child's laughter in his wake. Now, he was a man, but the surreal look on his face reduced the hardened lines of masculinity, rendering him to look like nothing more than a sleeping babe at nighttime. If only she had found Ember curled up to his side, cuddling away a bad dream.

With her knee, she nudged Calyx's leg. "Wake up, dragon prince, the dragons need your assistance."

It wasn't exactly a lie. A dragon needed his assistance.

She wished that she could let the poor boy sleep, but she was desperate to get this done as quickly as possible.

Marie stood there, arms folded over her chest, eyes narrowed at the lump on the couch. Along her hands, she wore black sleeves that matched her black dress. Aside from the hollows of her cheekbones, she made sure there was no evidence of what the fetus was putting her through. It was too risky. They'd find out his power and try to end him themselves; or at least, that's what she feared. In their eyes, she had done nothing but bring them heartache and death. She was not any less disposable than a banana peel.

"Come on, I'll show you the way," she said, walking off before he had much of a chance to get his bearings and follow her.

A lot has happen over the past 7 months . Sora , Imperfect and Marie where all pregnant at the same time ! That alone must been stressful for Calyx to do alone . I praises him for it . He knew what I was doing at the time being and understood the reason behind it . He didn't ask no questions about it . Calyx help a lot with Marie even though there was still tension in the air between the two . I honestly didn't know why but at some point I would have to step in and come to the bottom of this . I planned to let them settle it like adults but after seven month and not really seeing any results it became clear that it was bigger then I thought .

Marie 7 months pregnant and wobbling around he house like a penguin was the funniest thing in the world to me . She couldn't do what she wanted to do with the baby in her belly . It bother her but not as much as knowing the fact that I wasn't the father . I never let it bother me as much as it did her . I understood what she told me and I cling on to that . I know she wasn't telling me the whole thing and her reason behind it I didn't understand but when it finally adds up I will step in and handle the rest. Till then I was just focus on The family.

Even though I was very great full for what Calyx was doing I had a odd feeling he was up to something. He ask Marie to help him with something but I could never grasp what they where talking about and every time I thought about asking him if I could assist something came up and it slip from my mind . Maybe I should ask Marie or Sora when I see them later on

-------Insert 7 month time jump-------

Calyx sighed as he fell back onto the couch. It had been months since he returned to full health, but he kept so busy that he felt every bit as exhausted as the day he awoke from his coma. Between caring for a pregnant mother AND stepmother, on top of caring for the Dragon's Den with Winter, and training Cadence, there was practically no time for rest!

Not only that, but there was still the frustration about his failure to revive his father. Marie had given him instructions on how to do it, and while he had the power and capability. He simply didn't have the experience or know how to successfully reanimate someone. Marie had told him to give her some time and she would help him, but HER ass was pregnant too! Was it something in the air or what?

On top of everything else, there was something forming between Calyx and Cadence that was yet to go addressed. He knew that tooner or later, they would have to acknowledge what had happened between them, but he simply didn't have it in him at the moment!

Without Winter, he would surely be dead. She was his rock whenever he needed her, and he couldn't be more thankful to have such and awesome little sister! Even so, He couldn't help but hope that either Imperfect, or Soraya was having a boy. There was more than enough estrogen floating around the place.

The hardest part was traveling to see Imperfect. She had chosen not to stay in the Dragon's Den, and while it was probably a bad idea to have three pregnant women around all at once, he hated that she wasn't easily accessible. He should have been taking care of her full time. He had to say though, he was grateful that she had Azriel. Even if the two weren't particularly close, that man was good to Calyx' mother. They had a mutual respect, and that was enough for now.

Calyx had just caught up with how exhausted he was when he heard something fall and shatter. He didn't even get up to investigate. He just plopped onto his side and fell asleep...

Soraya watched as Marie approached, her gaze skimming the tea pitcher before focusing on the expression. Whatever had occurred between Marie and Calyx had not went well. This deduction was reinforced when Marie told Adrani to go check on her son. Soraya made a move to go as well.

Afterall, she was his stepmother.

But before she could go, Marie stopped her with a question.

"If you hurry." Soraya's jaw flexed, displaying a portion of the aggravation she felt.

Her hair tossed effortlessly in the wind. The feel of the invisible force relaxed her. It was cool and inviting.

She gave Adrani a tentative smile as he left. There was tension between the spouses. Perhaps because she had left for three months? For a moment, she felt compelled to explain to him that she had been the one to force her to leave, but vengence kept her lips locked. Marie could handle knowing the future, she could handle a simple spat, right?

"I assume you're here to explain why it is you were the only one to know of Raijuta's future. Why, after all these years of friendship, you could not tell he was going to die?" Soraya inquired when Adrani had vanished from their sight.

Did Adrani know of what Marie had done?

His words never seemed to penetrate her hard exterior. That was, not until he spoke his departing words. Dark humor faded into the abyss as a sorrow sank into her expression. Not a single point he had uttered was disputable, but the last was agonizingly true. It was the same truth that had kept her awake at night, staring out into the darkness as she wrestled with inner turmoil.

Marie watched him until he was no longer in sight, then picked up the tea she had earlier abondoned, and made her way to her previously intended destination.

To both her surprise and dismay, Adrani was with Soraya. It was the first time she had seen him in a couple days. Her gaze fell short of meeting her husband's as she smiled and lifted up the tea.

"I have tea," she announced as if holding a trophy instead of tea.

It was a small pitcher, hardly enough to be divided between three people, and she had not thought to bring glasses. Realizing her mistake, she lowered the prize and eyed it, thoughtfully.

"Calyx needs you."

It took her a few seconds to realize the words had come out a bit forceful and cold. She cleared her throat.

"I think he could use his uncle," she amended, looking at the house in the distance.

There was a twinge of desire to reach out to Adrani, to pull herself close to his warmth and rest in the security of his arms. However, it was repelled by a stronger force that kept her chained in guilt and shame. There was no reasoning through the dreadful feelings, not when the horror of reality was as fresh as the scent of brewed tea clinging to the air.

She busied herself with wiping off what little of the brown liquid had managed to seep onto the outside of the pitcher, until he was gone.

Calyx's words rang in the back of her mind.

"Adrani can do better."

"Soraya, may I speak with you?"

Marie was not sure what she would say. Afterall, she felt the same betrayal that enticed Calyx into violence. Maybe she would be merciful and simply ignore her.

Calyx scoffed upon hearing Marie's question. "A lady? Is that what you're calling yourself?" Coming home pregnant was pretty much the equivalent of kissing and telling, but he had no interest in arguing with her. Hell, he barely wanted to look at her! His eyes narrowed as he watched the wounds in her neck close up. She was still annoying as always...

His eyes returned to their normal hazel color as Marie complained about her hair. Calyx turned his back on her before she could even release the words. "If it takes longer to do your hair than to heal five holes in your throat, your priorities are out of order." He took a couple steps before stopping. "Then again, I guess that goes without saying." His cold demeanor was quite the opposite of the fiery rage he had displayed earlier. In this moment, he was truly a reflection of his father. "Adrani can do better..."

With that, he made his way back inside to find to find Cadence still sitting at the kitchen table. "Sorry about that." He told her. He was embarrassed by his behavior, though he didn't regret it. Marie needed to know exactly where they stood. "How about we go check out that pool?"

The white dragon had yet to appear. Soraya had been waiting for only a half an hour or so, but time dragged on like a century. After being alive for so long, time was hardly a measurement to go by. She judged it by the pain, anymore. When the pain began to slip and a void separated her from life, it became hard to concentrate. The only antidote she had found was spending time with the dragon. He parted the pain and pushed back the void- even if for a few hours.

There was a flutter in her stomach, but she knew it not to be from the footsteps she heard approaching from behind.

"How are you?" she asked, without immediately turning to greet Adrani. Instead, her gaze shifted above the horizon and further up into the cloudless heavens. She feared she had waited in vain.

A heartbeat later, she was facing him with a small smile etching along her pale lips. Her weight loss still showed in the hollows of her cheeks, but her skin portrayed a healthy glow. She was finally eating again.

S
The smile melted away the longer she looked at him. With Calyx, it was difficult, but with Adrani, it was even worse. Calyx looked more like Raijuta. Adrani looked less, but the masculinity combined with minute gestures that were otherwise undetectable to anyone else, reminded her of Raijuta every time.

Her gaze fluttered over his shoulder. By the house, she could vaguely make out the shapes of Marie and Calyx. She had yet seen Marie since she told her to leave. Despite still harboring a grudge, she hoped Calyx and her were making up, for Calyx's sake.

"Marie is back." She meant to pose the statement as a question but disdain weighed it down.

Soraya sighed, shaking her head and bringing her eyes back to the man present. Her lips curved into a smile once more, this time, in an apologetic curve. They were married. Whatever she felt toward Marie was rude to cast onto him.

"Doesn't feel right," she murmured, looking around them. "Without him."

The realm had settled into normalcy. All the dragons seemed peaceful once again. Even the weather patterns had become static once more. Yet there was no denying the ache, the loss.

She sighed again. "None of it, Adrani. None of it feels right."

it felt good to get away from everything for a little while . I didn't know how stressed I really was till I went to sleep and woke up three days later . Matter of fact , I didn't know I could even sleep . I loved watching the sun rise and the moon slumper . It was the only thing that really made sense. Hibernating for three days made me feel like I was 120 years old again . Body felt fresh , my mind had a better view of the situations that had happen. I had a better understanding of what to do and how to approach it then just relying on what would someone else would of done .. I wish Marie would of came . This was "her" idea but she had other things to handle .

"Welp , that's was relaxing while it lasted . Time to go back home . "

It would have tooken me a whole day to get home , more if I drag my feet . But sense Arura (dragons name ) came a long  to the trip back home only took several hours ..

When I arrive at the front door i stared at the door knob for a second and restrain myself from opening it . A past memory activated . It was when the war was over and we was trying to find a place to call home .. I remember staying here for serval days rebuilding this place to its natural form with Rai. It sucked, but that day we bonded .

I took a deep breath and exhale the past memory and open the door to see not much really change . I figure as much . The first thing I wanted to do was talk to my nephew about what he wanted to do . But I had a change of heart when I really thought about it and instead went to check on Sora .

Out of her peripheral, her attention focused on the place where crimson covered his skin. It brought to memory the endless nights before, yet not even then had as much blood been drawn.

In the midst of attempting to maintain a cool demeanor, the deep browns of her eyes succumbed to black clouds that testified to the inner turmoil of her thoughts. His disdain for her was evident, if not in his tightening grip, in his burning glare that felt more penetrating than the talons invading the smooth flesh of her neck.

It was painful. There was no denying that. No amount of torture could ever undo the effects of pain. Rather, it merely taught her how to deal with it and how not to reveal the torment she felt, to her enemies.

"I don't believe in fate."

There it was. The same pathetic phrase she had heard countless times before. As always, it was uttered with the same naivety and irritation. She watched humorously as his lips curled beneath his declaration as a growl emitted from them, reinforcing his claim.

She laughed, or at least, she meant to. What escaped her was something much more guttural and dark.

Still, she kept her thoughts a secret as she waited for his hand to release her. When he did at last, she fell to her knees and coughed, holding the place with tentative hands. By the time he spoke again, she was on her feet and without so much as a bruise to suggest any harm was ever done to her.

Marie dusted herself off, avoiding making any eye contact as the question hung in the air between them. When finished, she folded her arms across her chest as her lips pursed in uncertainty.

She debated on putting it all on the line and confiding in him. Anything to wipe away the look in his eyes- the one she could not quite place. At face-value, it appeared to be suspicion, but it was too close to disgust to distinguish. Perhaps she would have been foolish enough to tell him, but after nearly being strangled to death, she was reminded why she was doing all this in the first place.

"Now Calyx, what kind of lady would I be, if I told you? I never kiss and tell," she told him flatly, as she tilted her head with a smirk.

Marie was many things, yet everyone knew 'lady' was not one.

Not only would telling him of Hades put their lives at stake even more than they already were, it would force her to relive the hellish nightmare of the past few months, all over again. That was not a thing she was keen on doing.  Yet, she could have told him the partial truth like she had his uncle, but there was no telling if he would crave more information or not.

Running her fingers through her hair, she cursed beneath her breath.

"Do you realize how long it takes a woman to do her hair? Did you really have to mess it up too?" Marie asked.

Her hand fell in surrender after it combed through the curls a few times in vain. As always, Marie deflected any conversation of substance, maintaining her facade of indifference.

The boy would not surprise her. He would do what people always did, which was what she intended for. Marie pretended to busy herself with looking around for Soraya, waiting for him to either attack or depart with some disappointed words.

"You're a terrible liar."

The words echoed in her ears as she glanced up at him quizzically. A frown formed over her lips as her eyebrows pinched together.

The voice had not sounded like Calyx's, yet it had come from somewhere nearby. Maybe after all these years, she was finally going crazy. Something told her that insanity would be a better alternative to what she feared the voice truly meant.

Diverting her gaze, she looked over his shoulder, eyeing the distance while she waited for him to leave.

Calyx wasn't suprised by Marie's lack of resistance. Despite her outgoing, and somewhat aggressive nature, he had always seen her as physically submissive. The way she folded to him when she attempted to warn him about Ember was testament to that.

But though she submitted to him physically, making no attempt to fight back, her gaze told another story. He understood it well. She was unbothered, unafraid. She was practically asking him to try to take her life. His claws had extended into her throat. Her blood had soaked his left hand, as his right held her in place. A few more inches and he could easily rip out her larynx. But he knew that ultimately, it would have no consequence. Hell she could probably grow a new one! Even so, his grip tightened out of sheer frustration.

It was nothing more than a gestural slip that brought it to Calyx; attention. His anger had caused him to overlook it until then. But he gave no indication that he had noticed. Raijuta had taught him well. He maintained his composure as he assessed the situation.

His expression softened slightly when Marie finally responded. His claws receded slightly, but remained just beneath the skin of her throat. He knew she spoke the truth. She may have been able to see the future, but he couldn't imagine she had the ability to control it, or even explicitly talk about it. To be fair, Calyx knew very little of Marie's origins. But he recognized the Divine energy she posessed, because he had tasted it. He was sure that she was some sort of Goddess...

But while she spoke, he was still examining the force that grew within her stomach, without once breaking eye contact. "I don't believe in fate." He growled.

When she demanded he release her, his claws retracted completely, but he didn't release his grip on her throat just yet. His eyes narrowed at the mention of his father, and lowered to her belly for the first time, before quickly returning to her eyes. His grip fell from her throat, and he took a step backward, as if suspicion had taken over him. "That child isn't Draconian." He said. It was the first time he showed a hint of having noticed her pregnancy, and he had already determined that the didn't belong to his uncle as well." His father's teachings weren't wasted, and no one, especially Marie, could tell him otherwise. "Who's child is it?" The scales receded from his face, and his eyes returned to their normal color, but there was no hint of compromise in his eyes. If he and Marie were going to have any peace, she was going to tell him what the hell was going on...

There was no denying the malice written throughout Calyx's body language as Marie entered the room. Clenched fists had been her greeting much more often than she cared to acknowledge. The atmosphere thickened with awkward tension as she maneuvered herself onto the table between the two children and addressed the woman. Stunning, the woman possessed an air of humility that only strengthened the lure behind the natural pout of her lips. Kindness in her voice ebbed at the tension, but it did so in vain. As soon as her sentence found its departure, the intensity of the gaze upon her back, regained its sting.

"Marie," she responded, adding a smile to emphasize the nonchalance of her voice.

If she could pretend all was well, it would be.

A lack of desire for conversing overwhelmed her as bitterness left a copper-like taste in her mouth. Slowly, as if not to arouse suspicion, Marie stood, allowing her clothes to fall and hang perfectly off the sharp curves of her hipbones, without so much as a trace of a single wrinkle. Mirroring perfection, her lips strengthened their hold on the smile, clinging to it like fingers on the edge of a cliff.

"I will allow you two to return to your conversation," Marie said.

Purposely, her eyes fell short of meeting the gaze across the table. Call it cowardice, call it cold. Marie would not permit herself to be at the mercy of another person's rage anymore than necessary.

The 'taps' of her heels softened as hardwood turned to grass below her feet. It was only when she reached outside, did she realize the copper-like taste had been blood that had came from unintentionally biting her inner cheek.

She swallowed, ridding her mouth of the taste and carried on.

Tea in hand, she directed her steps to where she knew Soraya to be. There was uncertainty in her stride. Partly due to what waited for her with Soraya, but mostly due to the noise of Calyx following in her stead.

Suddenly, hands broke into peripheral vision. She did not need to know the future to assume what would follow. Her body held no regard to it's rough handling. If anything, she seemingly melted like clay within his hands, obeying their command as they thrust her against a wall, holding her captive. There was a hollowness to her movements, or lack thereof.

Defying the silence, his accusation stirred the attention of the creatures around them. It was not his rage that reached her, it was the sheer agony caged behind it. Like a tidal wave, emotion crashed down on her fragile state, melting the resolve of her stoic expression, even if only for a split second.

She had expected a confrontation upon her return, but she had half-expected it to be with Winter. The young female dragon had already seemed so wound tight, she had thought for sure Raijuta's death would have left her a crumbled mess.

Marie's gaze shifted from the hardened scales outlining his eyes, to something behind him. For a moment, her eyes seemed to lock onto something, but just as they appeared to have, they moved back to him, meeting golden orbs that seared into her soul.

There was no pity in her gaze. No sympathy. Only coldness that reflected her own primitive need for survival. As if reading his mind, her chin lifted, allowing his grip to delight in the exposed flesh. It was hardly noticeable, and perhaps it would not be to anyone else around them.

To him the message would be clear.

I dare you.

There was no anger or resentment in it, only wishful thinking. The truth was, even if he tried, he would never succeed in killing her. At least not until she was no longer of value.

The air around them grew uncomfortably hot. She thought it to be coming from him until she noticed the strange sensation in her stomach.

"Yes," she responded beneath the claws, her voice void of emotion.

Marie spoke more so to distract herself of what was happening within her. Really, she wanted to turn and leave. She owed this family nothing, yet she was sacrificing everything. There was a strong urge deep within her that longed to give Calyx what he seemingly wanted, but she was not so sure it was her that wanted blood, or the thing inside her.

Her eyes closed for a few seconds longer than a blink warranted, and when they reopened, she appeared much more tired than anything else.

"Yes," she repeated, the tone of her voice much softer than his and in their harsh contrast, she was again reminded of the fragility of his immaturity and mourning. "I knew."

Her words harbored a gentleness they had not before, but they were still firmly spoken. Calyx desperately needed to break, but she was knew she was not the one who could put him back together.

Only someone he loved would be allowed that kind of vulnerability. If she could, she would have tried to reason with him and plead for his and everyone elses forgiveness. For their safety, she would not allow herself to chance it.

Her lips parted, then closed just as quickly. A sharp pain drew her hand to her stomach. The gesture tugged at the fabric there, causing it to rise against the bump, shaping it perfectly. Marie caught herself and retracted her hand, measuring his expression for signs of revelation. Not that she could hide it forever, but she wanted more time before anyone else found out.

"There was nothing I could have done," she murmured, speaking the words she had meant to before, as a means to steer the attention away from her slip up. "I don't have the power to alter fate."

That in itself was not completely a lie. Having forfeited her claim to her title as a fate, she could have only done something if she took it back through a covenant to never relinquish it again. Though that enough would not have sufficed. Yet there was no explaining it all now and not to Calyx in such state.

Her gaze tentatively moved to his hand that held her throat, before chestnut brown orbs met golden ones again.

Tightening into fists, her hands stayed at her sides, refusing to touch him despite the growing temptaion. Pulsating, her throat had began constricting beneath his grasp, making it rather difficult to keep her breathing slow and steady. Dots had began to form in her vision, but she refused to let him see the effect he had on her. She knew he was not Hades, but that same defiant spirit had been kindled by the same kind of aggression.

"Is this the kind of behavior you reward your father for the years of upbringing and training? Calyx, release me. You are not a monster. I know darkness, and you do not belong in it."

Marie waited, keeping track of the world around them as well as the five jagged points of the claws digging to her neck.

Cadence' excitement toward something that seemed so basic to Calyx was cute! But it was understandable. For someone who had only a day ago unlocked her dormant Draconian blood, it was only natural that she be curious about what it meant to be a Draconian. "Well I guess you could call it a blessing and a curse. Draconians bodies are resilient. We also don't have to eat often. After a large meal we could go weeks without needing to eat again. But the Dragon spirits within us to have minds, and wills of their own. And they're not easy to control. Extreme emotions, or even using your Draconian abilities haphazardly could result in a loss of control, and cause you to destroy the things and people you care about."

He paused and looked at his hands. "But if you train hard, and learn to control it, you can go as far as to change your form into that of your dragon. Or do partial transformations, like sprouting wings so that you can fly! But I think the best part is that you always have a friend you can talk to, even when you're alone." He immediately regretted that last part, feeling that it sounded cheesy.

Calyx was just about to answer her question when Soraya walked into the room. She didn't seem to notice them, as she happily made her way over to make a sandwich, and scarf it down. Calyx couldn't help but laugh to himself. When she realized she wasn't alone, she hurried out, clearly embarrassed. Calyx wanted to talk to her about the dragon he had sensed, but he didn't chase after her. They could talk when her face returned to it's normal color.

It wasn't much later, that Marie made her way in the door. Calyx' fists immediately clenched, causing blood to flow from his hands as clawed nails dug into his skin beneath the table. She was so indifferent... So blatantly uncaring! How dare she show her face before him, and have the nerve to display a smile, as if she didn't know what had happened! She exchanged pleasantries with Cadence, but Calyx didn't speak a word to her. When she left the room, he opened his mouth for the first time. "Will you excuse me for just a second?" He asked his companion. His voice was calm, and relaxed. He got up from the table, and made his way out the door after Marie, leaving a small trail of blood droplets along the way.

When his eyes settled on Marie, they didn't see the same woman he always had a crush on as a child. The creature he saw was hideous! Scales grew around his eyes, and in an instant, he had caught her, and pushed her against a wall, clawed hand pressing against her throat. "You knew!" He roared. The echo of his voice could likely be heard throughout the entire manor but he didn't care. Scales had grown around his eyes, which had already turned from their normal hazel color, to the golden, reptilian form of his Dragon Spirit. It was a miracle he even managed to maintain his human form. "You knew all this would happen..." Rage was all he could feel. He wanted to rip her throat out. And at this point, he wasn't certain that he wouldn't...

While Calyx listened to her lecture, she noticed the deliberate way that he cut his bread disks. Taking a mental note, she continued to lecture him for a bit longer then gave him a chance to speak. While she listened to his response, she attempted to cut her bread disks; it turned out to be so easy that she felt a little silly that she couldn't figure out for herself. That could’ve been the reason why she appeared here, to find the one that was meant to help her grow and understand herself on a much deeper level.

“What else does the dragon in you assist with? That has to be the coolest way to heal ever! Not having to babysit wounds that should have been near fatal!” Her excitement seemed a little over dramatic in nature but it was how she felt about the situation.

Her mood took a swing toward the darker side as she listened to his story. It was darker than her own but it made her understand why he seemed so exhausted. “I’m so sorry Calyx.” Her hand reached out to touch his gently but she pulled away as she saw his claws grow as he thought back to recall what happened. She did not mean to cause such pain to resurface so quickly but without asking, she would not have known.

Her eyes followed his movements as he cleared his plate, which caused her to look down at hers and feel ever so bad for only touching 1/4th of her plate. Though the food was delicious, she found the conversation to be much more interesting.

“Subject change! I found the pool but I would like to know that if we can have it switched over to fresh or salt water instead. I don’t want to be a burden but I feel like I would be more at home if we could.” Her hands quickly made an appearance on the table clasped in front of her before they returned to her lap under the table. She had shown a bit more excitement than she intended but it was out in the open now and it could not be helped.

The sound of another drew her attention away from Calyx and a small smile crossed her lips as Soraya danced happily as she made a sandwich and scarfed it down. “Good morning to you too!” Cadence’s voice held a soft laugh as the woman ran out the kitchen and out the door.

But before she could make a comment on Soraya’s rushed movements, another woman entered the kitchen, in search of tea this time. Cadence’s eyes watch in the search that she would not be able to aid in, also curious about where the tea hid in the kitchen. Soon after finding it, the woman turned to search the faces of Calyx and Cadence. “No, we haven’t, I’m Cadence. What’s your name?” A smile made it’s way across her lips at the new woman, while her hand waved at the empty seat across from the two.

The prodding of the girl's finger wakes him. When he first comes to, it takes him a moment to figure out where he's at. He blinks, stretches, and yawns. It feels as though they slept for a few minutes, but by the position of the sun, it was much longer. He normally sleeps in two to three hour intervals anymore. Still, he is exhausted.

He looks up at her while emitting a growl from deep within his chest. "Not as bad as you, I'm sure."

With those words hanging in the air, he takes out a silver tin box out of the pocket of his pants. It is small. Barely the size of his palm. Opening it, he pulls out a diamond-shaped pendant. It has a dark, blue glow to it. As he studies it, tension trickles down his face, into his posture.

"I need to go," he says, getting on his feet.

When she came to, she was sitting beneath his arm and her hand was on his thigh with his on top of hers. It was very 'un-sibling' like. Instead of moving away, she sat still and stared at their intertwined fingers. As in every situation before, she over analyzed everything until emotion was minimized and rationality took effect.

They were nestled under a tree, rather uncomfortably. The earth beneath them was wet and hard, and their backs were pressed against a tree. It would make sense that in their unconscious state, they reached out to one another in search of comfort. Human contact had been known to be one of the most soothing techniques. Hence why babies and mothers were urged to make skin to skin contact after birth.

That was it.

She had noticed how he looked at her. There was always hesitancy in his gaze, avoidance in his voice. It always made her feel incomplete, but she was not sure why.

She shook her head, clearing it before it could venture down a dangerous path, and carefully removed herself from him as quietly as possible. Then, she woke him.

"Has anyone told you, you snore?" she asked, poking his shoulder. "You sound like a freight train."

"One-" He emphasizes by holding up his index finger for counting. "The hydra was pretty much still in its youth cycle. Two: you left me no choice after running off on me."

He convieniently left out the part that she was running to get aid since he had been severely wounded.

He grins in response to her scowl. Though her diverted attention was curious, he pays it little mind. She was thinking constantly. Day dreaming would get her hurt one of these days.

"Probably not, kiddo." He chuckles.

He seconds her yawn.

The ground is not soft, by any means, but he has no problem with it. All his life had been outdoors. Hers had probably been spent in libraries sitting on cotton sheets or fluffy pillow-tops.

Her question only makes him smile. He shrugs.

"That is for me to know and you to never find out," he says, rubbing his 5 o'clock shadow. He needed to find a razor before he gets a full out beard.

He gets a sense of monachopsis when she begins rambling about dragons. It is probably the most he had ever heard her talk too.

Ambrose silently listens to her, finding the facts oddly interesting. Truth be told, he was not one for dragons. They were just larger versions of the scaly, slimy lizards that snaked along the ground. You never knew when one would dash out in front of you.

When she stops talking suddenly, he looks at her and finds her asleep. He thinks about scooping her up and taking her back to the house. Surely three was a room there. But a stranger carrying in someone's sister or daughter and asking where her room was, was probably not such a good idea.

Instead, he shifts in his place and gently guides her into the crook of his arm. She fits perfectly there. The contrast of his warm skin against her icy skin, relaxes him instantly.

He falls asleep there, holding her close in attempt to keep her safe as a brother would for his sibling.

Winter scowled, unaware of how the expression left indentations along the otherwise smooth surface of her forehead. "I do not get myself into trouble. You are the one to talk, Mr. Oh-I-Can-Take-On-A-Hydra-With-My-Bare-Hands-Guy."

For the second time within that hour, she rolled her eyes- half-playfully, half-seriously. He would get himself killed one day lest he watch himself. When he smoothed out the wrinkles that had developed in his shirt, she watched him, silently contemplating.

"Hmm?" She blinked and looked back up at him, blankely. "Oh, no," she said, once she realized what he had said. "Even if I had, you wouldn't leave, would you?"

She yawned. It had been a few days since she had slept. Between the war and traveling, she hadn't much time to rest.

Following his lead, she leaned back as well, only she used the tree behind to hold her erect rather than the sensitive palms of her hands that would hurt against sticks and hard earth. Not that the tree was any better. It scraped at her back.

She sighed.

"Because I can," answered Winter. She fidgeted in attempt to find a smoother, less 'scrapy' spot on the tree. "How did you get in the realm anyways?"

She dismissed his question about her emotional condition. There was no way she was going to discuss such things with him. He'd never let it go. The man was insufferable!

She tucked a stray, white hair behind her ear and subtly turned her back to him as she reached for second stick after throwing the one over the cliff.

"Did you know that dragons tend to like apple's as well as various meats. Reminds me of horses- not the meat part of course." She started drawing in the dirt with the second stick as a small yawn escaped her lips. "Also, they tend to enjoy all types of weather. You'd think rain, not. But they do." Winter stopped drawing and leaned her head back against the bark and closed her eyes. "They also have different colours and patterns never exactly the same as another. Like zebras. Or tigers."

By now, she was mumbling, barely coherent.

"Dragons like to settle with one mate." Another yawn. "Yet, they're not family oriented too of-"

Her voice eased into silence as she fell asleep with the breeze gently caressing her skin.

As he expected, she moves away. She was always locked into herself. Her question catches him off guard. He thought they were both under the same impression that he was here to repay her. Uncomfortable, he shifts in his seated position, avoiding her gaze.

"You know why I'm here, Wit. I will return home eventually. Until then, I will follow you around to ensure that you don't get yourself in trouble."

Ambrose smooths out his shirt before looking up at her. "You can't tell me you're sick of me already."

He grins, hoping to lighten the mood. Even though he needs to go back home, he feels a stronger pull to her. She reminds him of his own sister. If it was her, he would want someone to look out for her. He clears his throat and braces the ground behind him with open palms to hold him up at an angle.

"What's the matter, kid? If you didn't want to come back so soon, why did you?"

It was incredibly difficult to remain stoic around this guy. So much so, that she found it impossible to withhold a bubble of laughter even while feeling horrible.

"Exterminator, huh? Thought you were a royal pain in the butt," she said, shaking her head.

Her eyes landed on his shoulder when he sat. As expected, she inched away from him until they were no longer touching.

"Ambrose," she murmured. "Why did you follow me? I mean, it's not like you owe me anything. You've got so much going for you back home. It would be wise to return, no?"

She drove the stick in her hand into the dirt, making a small hole.

Their first meeting had been a disaster. It was amazing to see just how far they had come. Yet she knew the sacrifice he had made to follow her here. She was grateful, to a point, but it did not make any sense.

Blue eyes met his as she waited for his response.

He nods knowing that she was right and her sexuality was, indeed, none of his business. Still, he smiles, watching her break out into another one of her tangents. What he did not expect was her to close in on him and touch him. Even at a fingertip's length, it was more than enough to catch the girl's scent and feel the cold radiating from her body.

Winter was a very private and detached girl. When they had first met, she'd hardly glanced his way. This was the first time she had voluntarily touched him.

He felt sorry for the man who attempted to win her heart in the future. The guy would have to have the restraint and patience of a monk.

His eyes swirl with colour as his powers waver. Only she got away with touching him in such a manner.

"Of course you're not a child. What child would yell at someone 'I am not a child'?" He shakes his head at the girl and watches her stomp off, but not to his disappointment.

He had meant it when he said he enjoyed getting under her skin.

After that, he keeps his mouth shut tight. She was already on edge, he would hate to make it harder on her. Poor kid. She walked as if she carried the world on her shoulders.

If only she would allow someone to carry that weight...

"Wait, what?" he asks, watching her walk away from the house.

He had to admit, the place was no palace, but it wasn't that shabby.

"Cockroaches? Nasty things, I understand." He follows her to one of the hills.

As she sits and begins playing with a stick, he cannot help but watch her. In times like this, the child in her was so plainly evident, it was almost painful to witness. That lost look about her seared into his chest, undeniably so.

Yet, earlier, the way her lower lip had poked out beneath the upper, and how the sway of her eyelashes cast seductive shadows over her icy blue eyes, he could detect the woman she was developing into.

Like a flower not yet bloomed. Those such things needn't be rushed, yet like flowers, seasons of life rushed growth, leaving behind scars; or deformities where he was concerned.

"Hey," he says, sitting beside her. Their shoulders brush, but she was sure to respond quickly and pull away just as she always did. "It's okay, you can talk to me y'know?"

He tries to meet her gaze to convey the sincerity in his statement.

"I am a seasoned exterminator, afterall."
